INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL COMMISSION ASSUMES ‘SEEDS OF THE WORD’ (VATICAN COUNCIL II ) IN OTHER RELIGIONS ARE KNOWN TO US AND THIS IS AN EXPLICIT EXCEPTION TO THE DOGMA EXTRA ECCLESIAM NULLA SALUS

The International Theological Commission  (ITC)has made a fundamental, factual error in its position paper Christianity and the World Religions 1997. It assumes that those saved with the ‘seeds of the word’(Vatican Council II) in other religions are known to us defacto, explicitly. Since they are known to us according to the ITC, they are objective exceptions to the centuries old interpretation of outside the church no salvation.

Reason tells us that we do not know any one saved with the seeds of the Word , or  in invincible ignorance, a good conscience (LG 16), the baptism of desire etc.

So they are not defacto exceptions to the literal interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla salus. The Catholic Church has traditionally taught that there is exclusive salvation in only the Catholic Church. According to Dominus Iesus during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II, we cannot separate Jesus from the Church.

The ITC has rejected exclusive salvation citing Vatican Council II. Yet we know that there is nothing in Vatican Council II or the Catechism which contradicts the dogma unless it is assumed that we know of particular cases in general of those who are in Heaven.
The ITC cites Nostra Aetate 2, Vatican Council II. Yet a reading of NA 2 shows that there is no reference to explicitly known cases of non Catholics saved. Neither does Redemptoris Missio 56 claim that we can judge who is saved with the 'seeds of the word' in the present times.

B. Motifs from the Tradition Cited in Recent Statements of the Church's Magisterium

40. The universal significance of Christ has been expressed in different ways in the Church's tradition from the earliest times. We have selected some themes that have found an echo in the recent documents of the magisterium, especially in Vatican Council II.

41. The semina verbi, "seeds of the word", can be found outside the limits of the visible Church and specifically in the different religions; this motif is frequently combined with that of the light which enlightens all men and with that of the preparation for the Gospel (AG 11, 15; LG 16, 17; NA 2; Redemptoris missio, 56).- Christianity and the World Religions 1997
