The new theology is not really a theology.Yet it is the 'theology' which the traditionalist and conservative Catholics follow. It cannot be a theology since it is based upon a fantasy, that of being able to see people in Heaven or on earth saved without the baptism of water in the Catholic Church. Then they infer that there is salvation outside the Church. This is the theology of the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 to the Archbishop of Boston relative to Fr.Leonard Feeney and that of Vatican Council II. It was approved by Cardinal Ratzinger and the popes and also by Archbishop Lefebvre. All the sedevacantists and traditionalists, including the Society of St.Pius X and the St. Benedict Centers, of Fr.Leonard Feeney, unknowingly or knowingly use this non-theology.
For all of them the baptism of desire and being saved in invincible ignorance refer to visible cases and so they assume these visible cases on earth are objective exceptions to all needing to be incorporated into the Church as members for salvation.
The Letter of the Holy Office 1949 actually says all do not need to be incorporated into the Church and the whole Church including the magisterium has overlooked this new heresy posing as the new theology. No one has specifically questioned it.
The St.Benedict Centers and the SSPX have been fencing with tension among some supporters of the two sides. All have assumed that there are known cases of the catechuman with the desire for the baptism of water who dies before receiving it and is saved. This is and was a hypothetical case in the first place. One can assume with good will that such a person is saved but it would still be a theoretical case.It could not be an explicit exception, for example, 2017 for the need for all non Catholics to formally enter the Church with faith and baptism.
Similarly LG 16, LG8, UR 3, Na 2 etc are all hypothetical cases yet Bishop Fellay the Superior General of the SSPX, and Fr. Pierpaolo Petrucci, the Superior, SSPX Italy among others have assumed they are exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. They have mentioned this error online.
Similalry the St.Benedict Centers supporters in contact with the religious Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have rejected Vatican Council II since they consider the Council an exception to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.LG 16 was a problem for them. Similarly CCC 1257 and 846 would also be a problem for them because of the new theology which they use.
Vatican Council is not a rupture with the past.
It is the new theology which they use to interpret the Council which creates the wrong conclusion and inference. The result is that the magisterium affirms this heresy, this non traditional conclusion created by the theology, and enforces it.While the SSPX and SBC are trying to comply or make sense of it all, while overlooking the precise origin of the new theology which they all use.-Lionel Andrades
