Over 50 years and conservative Catholics in Italy did not know that Vatican Council II supported the old ecclesiology of the Church, the Syllabus of Errors and an ecumenism of return. The conservatives did not know that hypothetical cases must only be interpreted as being hypothetical.Paolo Pascualucci, Romano Amerio and Brunero Gherardini who are cited in a report on the blog 1Peter 5, did not know.
They just did not know.

Like every one else they saw references to invisible people as being visible. Then like everyone else , they assumed, without really thinking, that these 'visible people' were examples of salvation outside the Church. So for them outside the Church there was known salvation.
This was the reasoning of the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 and it had been approved by the popes and cardinals.

Now conservative Catholics know.They can interpret Vatican Council II as being in step with Tradition and not a rupture.Since when there are no exceptions to EENS the old ecclesiology is intact. Upon it depended an ecumenism of return, traditional Mission, Social Reign of Christ the King etc.

Of course liberals will interpret Vatican Council II as a rupture with Tradition.Cardinal Luiz Ladaria, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(CDF) did it on March 1,2018 and Pope Benedict in March 2016.
The conservatives were not aware of the error.There were no reports or websites pointing it out.The conservatives had to say that Vatican Council II can only be a rupture with Tradition with invisible people being seen as visible.Without this false premise Cardinal Ladaria could not say Lumen Gentium 8 was an exception to traditional outside the Church there is no salvation.

Brunero Gherardini is irrational it can be seen in the text of the blog 1Peter5 : They misinterpreted hypothetical cases in Lumen Gentium, Unitatitis Redintegratio and Nostra Aetate as being objective people saved outside the Church.This was a mistake
