The interpretation of Paolo Pasqualucci, Romano Amerio and Msgr. Brunero Gherardini is irrational it can be seen in the text of the blog 1Peter5 : They misinterpreted hypothetical cases in Lumen Gentium, Unitatitis Redintegratio and Nostra Aetate as being objective people saved outside the Church. This was a mistake

“Points of Rupture” of the Second Vatican Council with the Tradition of the Church – A Synopsis

Paolo Pasqualucci, Romano Amerio and Msgr. Brunero Gherardini and Maike Hickson have used an irrational  reasoning and so their conclusion is

non traditional, a rupture with Tradition.

3.  The attribution of the same faith in Christ to all Christians, including those “separated” from the Catholic Church, improperly equates the Catholic faith with the faith of schismatics and heretics. One notes, in particular, that the Decree Unitatis RedintegratioOn Ecumenism even considers “separated Churches and Communities,” notwithstanding their “deficiencies,” to be true and proper “means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Church” (UR 3.4).
Lionel: We have to keep the text of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus before us.This helps us think clearly. Unitatis Redintegratio(3,4) refers to hypothetical cases. Since they are not objective people in the present times,  they cannot be exceptions to EENS.The dogma says all need to be members of the Church for salvation.UR (3,4) does not not mention any known exception in real life. When there are no exceptions to EENS in Vatican Council, there are no exceptions to the past exclusivist ecclesiology of the  Catholic  Church. So theologically there still is an ecumenism of return with  Vatican Council II.
Since there is no known salvation outside the Church there is no basis for the new ecumenism.

5.  The notion of the Church contained in the tortuous article 1 of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church Lumen Gentium stands out [as different from the Tradition], presented as “a sacrament or as a sign and instrument both of a very closely knit union with God and of the unity of the whole human race,” without any mention of the supernatural end of the Church, that is the salvation of souls, the one thing that justifies her existence.
Lionel: The Vatican Council II Fathers had accepted the error in reasoning of the Letter of the Holy Office 1949. So  in principle, there are errors of reasoning in the Council-text.
But even with these errors, which are merely references to hypothetical cases, we can re-interpret Lumen Gentium in harmony with EENS. Lumen Gentium's references to hypothetical cases does not contradict the traditional interpretation of EENS.
If this distinction(visible-invisible, explict-implicit etc) is not made, then Lumen Gentium could wrongly seen as a reference  to known people saved outside the Church. So then Lumen Gentium would contradict EENS. In this way Vatican Council II becomes dogmatic, having discarded the dogma EENS and created a new doctrine, that of outside the Church there is known salvation.
In principle the Vatican Council II Fathers assumed hypothetical cases were not hypothetical but objectively visible.
In principle they assumed people in Heaven are objectively visible on earth.
In principle they assumed that we can know of non Catholics on earth saved without the baptism of water in the Catholic Church.

In general, as a norm, the Principle of Non Contradiction was violated, what is invisible was inferred to be visible and then non traditional conclusions were made.
However when we are aware of the error, we simply overlook the hypothetical cases mentioned in the Council-text and do not project them as exceptions to Tradition.

6.  The definition of the Church given by LG 8.2 and later specified in LG 15, UR 3 and UR 15.1, affirms that the Church of Christ “subsists” in the Catholic Church and also that “many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside of its visible structure. These elements, as gifts belonging to the Church of Christ, are forces impelling toward catholic unity.” This is an entirely new definition, which seems to extend the concept of the Church of Christ to also include all the heretics and schismatics, thus exposing itself to the accusation of heresy in the formal sense, because it implies the negation of the dogma of the unicity of the Roman Apostolic Catholic Church (the one and only true Church of Christ) for salvation.
Lionel: Again Lumen Gentium 8 is a reference to  hypothetical cases. We do not and cannot know of any non Catholic saved with 'elements of sanctification and truth' in other religions(LG 8). Neither can we know of any non Catholic saved outside the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church, where the true Church of Christ 'subsists' .So Lumen Gentium is not a point of rupture from Tradition.

22.  The multiple, unusual and misleading statements attributed to non-Christian religions in the Document Nostra Aetate. It even declares that these “nonetheless often reflects a ray of that truth which enlightens all men” (NA 2.3) and, incredibly, exhorts Catholics to “recognize, preserve, and promote the good things, spiritual and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values found among these men (NA 2.3)! This Declaration (but also LG 16: “along with us they adore the one and merciful God [nobiscum Deum adorant unicum et misericordem]”) seems even to recognize as authentic the revelation proclaimed by Mohammed and holds acceptable the apocryphal “christology” and “mariology” of the Koran (NA 3.1). Towards the Jews, it seems to believe that Christ has already reconciled Christians and Jews, simply ignoring the fact that Judaism has not converted and remains hostile to Christ, maintaining its false temporal messianic hope. This supposed conciliation renders uncertain the theology of the substitution, which involves, as we know, the radical and obvious substitution of Christianity for Judaism, as the only true revealed religion (NA 4).
Lionel: Nostra Aetate 2 (reflects a ray of that truth which enlightens all men) refers to a speculative person. A hypothetical person and not someone whom we can know.Since if someone was saved as such he or she would be in Heaven and visible only to God and the Catholics who are in Heaven. So LG 8 must not be projected as relevant or an exception to the dogma EENS. This was the mistake Cardinal Luiz Ladaria s.j, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith made on March 1,2018 at the Press Conference on Placuit Deo, when he was asked a question by a journalist from the Associated Press.

Interestingly Nostra Aetate 4 says that the Church is the new people of God and so it supports the exclusivist ecclesiology of the Church here.Nostra Aetate otherwise does not contradict Tradition.

23. Appreciating Hinduism, the Declaration says that its followers “contemplate the divine mystery and express it through an inexhaustible abundance of myths and through searching philosophical inquiry. They seek freedom from the anguish of our human condition either through ascetical practices or profound meditation or a flight to God with love and trust” (NA 2.2). This portrayal is totally misleading because it leads the Catholic to hold as valid the mythology and philosophy of Hinduism, as if it would effectively “contemplate the divine mystery” and as if Hindu asceticism and mysticism could attain something similar to Christian asceticism. We know, however, that the mixture of mythology and speculation which characterizes the spirituality of India since the time of the Vedas (16th to 10th century B.C.) betrays itself in a conception of the divinity and of the world which is monist and pantheist. In fact, conceiving of God as an impersonal and cosmic force, it ignores the concept of creation ex nihilo and, as a result, does not distinguish between sensible reality and supernatural reality, material reality and spiritual reality, between the Whole and particular things. As a result, every individually existing thing dissolves into the indistinct cosmic One, from which everything emanates and to which everything eternally returns, while all that exists individually would be in itself purely an appearance. This thinking, which according to the Council is “profound”, inevitably lacks the notion of the individual soul (which by contrast was already known to the ancient Greeks) and what we call free will...
Lionel: There is known salvation outside the Catholic Church had been the approach to other religions among the Council Fathers at Vatican Council II. They included Cardinal Richard Cushing( who approved the excommunication of Fr. Leonard Feeney) and the Jesuits in the USA( who had expelled Fr. Feeney from their community). The Council Fathers assumed there was known salvation outside the Church and invisible baptism of desire etc was a visible exception to Feeneyite EENS.For some 19 years the excommunication was not lifted and even during Vatican Council II Fr.Leonard Feeney remained excommunicated.

This was also the mistake of Pope Benedict at Vatican Council II and later.Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(CDF), assumed unknown people were known. This was  an objective mistake.Since he assumed that people saved in Heaven were visible on earth to be exceptions to EENS, it was a factual mistake.Since he assumed that people in Heaven were also present on earth at the same time,he violated the Principle of Non Contradiction.

In March 2016 Pope Benedict said EENS was no more like it was for the missionaries in the 16th century. There was a development with Vatican Council II. He also indicated that Vatican Council II questions the need for mission since there is known salvation outside the Church for him.
Now we know that the Magisterium made a  mistake in the 1949 Letter and then again at Vatican Council II.
But this does not mean that the Council any where contradicts Feeneyite EENS or is a rupture with the Syllabus of Errors.Since hypothetical cases never ever were exceptions or relevant to EENS.
With Lumen Gentium,Unitatis Redintigratio and Nostra Aetate not contradicting Feeneyite EENS we can only have an ecumenism of return in Vatican Council II.

24. On Buddhism, a partially purified autonomous variant of Hinduism, the Declaration states that “in its various forms [it] realizes the radical insufficiency of this changeable world; it teaches a way by which men, in a devout and confident spirit, may be able either to acquire the state of perfect liberation, or attain, by their own efforts or through higher help, supreme illumination” (NA 2.2). This is the image of a Buddhism a misrepresented by the famously unorthnodox Henri De Lubac, S.J.; i.e., reconsidered and embellished so as to make it presentable to unsuspecting Catholics. In fact, they are not informed that, as a counterpoint to the “radical insufficiency of this changeable world”, Buddhists place a true and real “metaphysic of nothingness”, so to say, according to which the world and our own “Self” are only apparent beings (and not simply contingent and transient but at the same time truly real ones, as for us Christians). […]” For the Buddhist, everything “is becoming and un-becoming” at the same time, life is a continuous flux pervaded by universal sorrow, which is to be overcome by persuading oneself that everything is vain, that all one needs to do is to persuade himself to get rid of every desire through an intellectual initiation, a gnosis. In Tantric Buddhism such a gnosis is pushed beyond the limits of ethics and decency, by professing the supposedly liberating use of the so-called “sexual magic”. Buddhistic initiation aims at attaining complete indifference to everything, Nirvana (“disappearance” or “extinction”); an ultimate condition of absolute privation, in which all there is is emptiness itself, the peace of absolute void, a non-being in which our “Self” is totally extinguished, dissolved in the cosmic Whole. This is the “state of perfect liberation” or  “supreme illumination” which Vatican II dared to call to the respectful attention of Catholics.
Lionel: Ad Gentes 7 says all need faith and baptism for salvation. We know that Buddhists die without faith and baptism .So all Buddhists are in Hell since faith and baptism is the ordinary way of salvation in the Church. This is the teaching of the Catholic Church in Vatican Council II. Those  Buddhists who do not convert into the Catholic Church in the present times, are on the way to Hell according to Vatican Council II(AG  7).

So we can interpret Vatican Council II as being in harmony with EENS, as it was known to St.Thomas Aquinas, the Syllabus of Errors and an ecumenism of return. This is the rational choice.

The interpretation of Paolo Pasqualucci, Romano Amerio and Msgr. Brunero Gherardini is irrational it can be seen from the above text.

They misinterpreted hypothetical cases in Lumen Gentium, Unitatitis Redintegratio and Nostra Aetate as being objective people saved outside the Church. This was a mistake. Then they concluded that Vatican Council II was saying that there is known salvation outside the Church and ' it implies the negation of the dogma of the unicity of the Roman Apostolic Catholic Church (the one and only true Church of Christ) for salvation.' So they blame the Council as being a rupture with Tradition when without the irrational premise the Council is in harmony with Tradition.  -Lionel Andrades
