Eucharistic miracle witnessed in India still continues
LOCAL BISHOPS SAY THEY WITNESSED ALLEGED MIRACLES NOW DRAWING THOUSANDS
- India
- February 26 1998
- Two Catholic bishops are among the hundreds of people who believe they may have witnessed miracles in which consecrated hosts have turned into flesh and blood in the mouth of a woman in southern India.
Following the reputed miracles and claims of the Blessed Mother appearing to Rani John Palumparambil, the woman´s house in Kanjikode village of Kerala state´s Palghat district has become a pilgrimage site.
Official Church comment on the phenomena that now attract some 2,000 people daily to the house is yet to come, but neither Archbishop Jacob Thoomkuzhy of Trichur nor Bishop Jacob Manathodath of Palghat doubt their authenticity.
Archbishop Thoomkuzhy says he saw flesh and blood in Palumparambil´s mouth "a few minutes" after giving Communion to the 30-year-old woman at a Mass on Feb. 12 for some 100,000 people attending a Bible convention.
The Syro-Malabar archbishop told UCA News that the "reality behind the miracle and its message is yet to be known," and that the Church would give its official position only after "a detailed study."
The event came to light after convention volunteer George Kanichai saw Palumparambil in distress and went to aid her. "To our astonishment, we found her mouth full of blood and a piece of flesh on her tongue," Kanichai said. Palumparambil said she felt "great pain" after receiving Communion.
After Archbishop Thoomkuzhy asked Palumparambil to narrate her experience before the congregation, she went on the convention stage and showed people her mouth with a piece of flesh and blood in it.
Some people later drank the water attendants used to wash her face.
Palumparambil told the gathering at the charismatic renewal center in Potta managed by the Vincentians that she had already had two similar experiences, the first having occurred Oct. 26, 1997, at Kanjikode´s Good Shepherd Church.
Recalling the event, her parish priest Father Joseph Pulavelil told UCA News in Kanjikode that people brought her to the sacristy after they saw blood flowing from her mouth. Bishop Manathodath was the Mass celebrant.
Father John Mylamvelil, the bishop´s secretary and an eyewitness, said that Bishop Manathodath placed his hand on Palumparambil´s head and asked her to eat the Eucharist. "Immediately, she could consume the sacred host," he added.
Father Mylamvelil said that although the bishop has refused to discuss the matter with the press, he has mentioned it at priests´ meetings and other Church events.
Father Pulavelil said that when the second transformation came 13 days later at a parish retreat, they allowed parishioners to see the "miracle."
According to Palumparambil, her first "vision" came on Oct. 8, 1996, after she fell into a trance while praying before an image of the Blessed Mother.
Her husband, Johnson Palumparambil, whom she married in 1992, said he heard Jesus speaking through her while she was in the trance. "We kept it a secret and continued to pray," he told UCA News.
Less than a month later, on Nov. 2, 1996, while on a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine, she had a vision of the Blessed Mother with the Child Jesus during which Mary gave her a rosary that is now on her family altar, she said.
Father Pulavelil, a retired chemistry professor, said the Palumparambils are "an innocent lot" living in a small cottage who have no reason to "cook up the story." He noted that the family has had problems controlling the pilgrims.
Some 2,000 people "pray to Our Lady" at the couple´s house daily, Rani Palumparambil´ father-in-law told UCA News on Jan. 22. The couple´s 5-year-old daughter has had to move in with a maternal aunt for the time being.
Father Pulavelil said the messages Palumparambil claims to relay resemble Mary´s message in Lourdes: pray the rosary for the world´s conversion.
Carmelite theologian Father Thomas Kalam says he has "much reservation" with regard to the alleged miracles" centering on Palumparambil, but Archbishop Cyril Mar Baselios of Trivandrum said he has no reason to disbelieve them.
According to the Syro-Malankara metropolitan, the messages are "in tune" with the Catholic faith. Unless proved otherwise, he said, he has reason to believe that the miracles are genuine and part of God´s design.

Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, Michael Davies, Dietrich Von Hildebrand and other traditionalists allowed the Church to continue on a wrong theological way
Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, Michael Treharne Davies, Dietrich Von Hildebrand and other traditionalists allowed the Church to continue on a wrong theological way, since they were not aware of the objective error made in the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 issued by Cardinal Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani. It was an error in reasoning. The same reasoning was used to interpret Vatican Council II and they were not aware of it.
They did not know that there was an alternative. If they avoided this particular reasoning, Vatican Council II would be traditional on other religions and Christian communities.
This group of traditionalists have had such an important influence in the Church that now people talk about pre Vatican Council II and post Vatican Council II times. They also associate the pre-Vatican Council II times with the traditionalists. While Vatican Council II is associated with the liberals. Yet the traditionalists and the liberals are using the same faulty reasoning in the interpretation of Vatican Council II.One rejects the Council and the other accepts.
Without this reasoning, we have an interpretation of Vatican Council II which is rational and not a break with pre-Vatican Council II.
The traditionalists who would avoid this error, for example, could say all Muslims are on the path to Hell according to Vatican Council II(Ad Gentes 7). This is when the B statements in AG 7 do not contradict the A statements in AG 7.(See earlier posts for a detailed explanation).Since the time of Archbishop Lefebvre B is an exception to A.This was the same for Cardinal Ratzinger. When B is not an exception if it is not explicit in the present times then A is pro-extra ecclesiam nulla salus and the Syllabus of Errors. If B is considered objective in the present times, then of course it becomes a break with the dogma on exclusive salvation in the Church. So the key is B. How do you intepret B? Does it refer to explicit for us cases in the present times or does it not?
If the irrational reasoning (B is explicit) is not used then Vatican Council II (AG 7) indicates all Muslims are on the way to Hell. This would also be true for other non Catholics.
So this would not be a pre-Vatican Council II statement as it is now thought. This would be Vatican Council II itself.
Vatican Council II indicates that Mohammad did not have 'faith and baptism'(AG 7) at the time of death. This is not a pre-Vatican Council II belief. This is Vatican Council II.
Presenty the sedevacantists Bishop Donald Sanborn and Fr.Anthony Cekada are confusing Catholics, since they see things in terms of pre-Vatican Council II and post Vatican Council II, similar to the liberals. This is because they too are making the same irrational error as the 1949 Letter of the Holy Office.B is explicit for them. This is what they infer.
There are no known exceptions to the rigorist interpretation of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus, known to them. They cannot name any one saved without faith and baptism. There are also no magisterial documents before 1949 which makes this irrational claim. So there cannot be anything in Vatican Council II, for us humans, which contradicts the traditional interpretation of the extra ecclesiam nulla salus which is there in AG 7(A). This was the mistake made by Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX continues with it today.
The fault is not with Vatican Council II but with the irrational inference.Otherwise the teaching of the Catholic Church on other religions for example, is still the same before and after Vatican Council II.-Lionel Andrades
This group of traditionalists instead of correcting the factual error of 1949 consolidated it and did not expose it http://eucharistandmission.blogspot.it/2015/07/this-group-of-traditionalists-instead.html

“Muslim who praised IS drove case against ‘Satanic Islam’ sermon Belfast pastor McConnell,” by Suzanne Breen, Belfast Telegraph, July 10, 2015 (thanks to Worried):
A leading Northern Ireland Muslim who praised Islamic State is set to be called as the main prosecution witness against a Christian preacher charged with making offensive remarks about Islam. In legal documents seen exclusively by the Belfast Telegraph, Dr Raied Al-Wazzan of the Belfast Islamic Centre is named as the chief witness in the prosecution case against Pastor James McConnell. The evangelical preacher faces up to six months in prison if convicted over a sermon last year in which he branded Islam as “heathen” and “Satanic”.In his statement to the PSNI, Dr Al-Wazzan denounces the pastor’s “terrible comments” and describes his “general sweeping statements” as “offensive and disgusting”.In January Dr Al-Wazzan himself was embroiled in controversy when he said that Islamic State, which has carried out mass executions and forced millions of people to flee their homes, had been a positive force in Mosul, his home city in Iraq.“Since the Islamic State took over, it has become the most peaceful city in the world,” he told BBC Radio Ulster’s Talkback.“Yes, there are other things going wrong there… they are murdering people, I agree, but you can go from east to west of the city without fear.”His comments provoked public outrage and Dr Al-Wazzan later withdrew them and apologised. In his statement to the PSNI about Pastor McConnell, Dr Al-Wazzan claims that many Muslims in Northern Ireland are professionals while the pastor’s congregation “may include impressionable, uneducated people”.Last night Pastor McConnell told the Belfast Telegraph: “The PPS’s case against me is summed up by the fact that the chief witness the prosecution is calling is a man who made highly controversial comments about Isis (Islamic State in Syria and the Levant).“A man who praised the rule in Iraq of Isis murderers will be giving evidence against me – it’s like a pantomime.“I don’t know how he will have the nerve to stand in a court and testify against me, and I don’t know how the PPS has the nerve to think he is in a position morally to do that.”Pastor McConnell’s solicitor Joe Rice said: “There are many bizarre features to this prosecution. We have now served our voluntary defence statement upon the court and the PPS.“We expect the PPS to release additional and new information which may lead us to lodge an abuse of process application in the near future.”A Public Prosecution Service spokesman said: “This case is now before the court and it is for the judge to decide on all evidential matters. It would be inappropriate for the PPS to make any further comment at this point.”Pastor McConnell has been charged under the 2003 Communications Act with “sending, or causing to be sent, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message or other matter that was grossly offensive”.The charges centre on a sermon he gave in May 2014 in which he said “Islam is heathen, Islam is Satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in Hell.” The sermon in the Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle was streamed on the internet. In his statement to the PSNI four days after Pastor McConnell’s sermon, Dr Al-Wazzan reveals he hadn’t actually heard the sermon but became aware of it two days later when the Belfast Telegraph telephoned the Belfast Islamic Centre asking for comment about the preacher’s remarks.Dr Al-Wazzan, an executive committee member of the centre, said he was “very offended” about what the evangelical preacher had said.He told police: “It makes me angry that this man is making general sweeping statements of this type, branding all Muslims like this. A lot of the Muslim community in Belfast are professionals such as doctors and to hear this man speak like this is disgraceful and disgusting.“My concerns are then worsened by the fact this man is in a position of power, preaching to a large congregation which may include impressionable, uneducated people who may then start to listen and believe what this man is saying rather than form their own beliefs.” In his five-page statement, Dr Al-Wazzan said he had been contacted by many Muslims worried about their safety following Pastor McConnell’s sermon.“I now have concerns for the Muslim community and feel that any attacks that may happen in the forthcoming weeks are a direct result of what this man said on Sunday,” he added. When Pastor McConnell was questioned by police about his sermon in June last year, Dr Al-Wazzan’s complaint was the only one the PSNI had received. A week later three more Muslims contacted the police to make brief statements of complaint. They included two men from Pakistan whose north Belfast home was attacked a fortnight after the preacher’s controversial comments. Following the attack, Pastor McConnell visited the house, condemned what happened, and gave Muhammad Asif Khattak and Haroon Khan £100 to replace their broken window. The Christian preacher is due to appear in court next month but the case is not likely to be heard until December.Mr Rice has said it will be a landmark trial with leading political, religious, and academic figures giving evidence in defence of freedom of speech and religion.Pastor McConnell last night said he was sorry if he had offended Muslims but he was still willing to go to jail rather than withdraw his remarks.“Everybody has the right to free speech,” he said. “When Dr Al-Wazzan found himself in trouble for his Isis comments earlier this year, I publicly said that he had let himself go but I stressed that he shouldn’t be reported to the police.“As strongly as I disagree with what he said, I support his right to say it. But, it seems, the same right is not extended to me.”…

As we published in our article on Don Bosco, the saint wrote the following in his periodical entitled Catholic Readings:
My dear friends, the enemies of Catholicism, and especially the Waldensians, are doing their utmost to undermine our beliefs. We exhort and urge all who cherish the Faith of their fathers to join us in defending this most precious gift of God. Help us to spread Catholic Readings so that we may unmask deceit and heresy and safeguard the Catholic Faith of our people. It alone has the whole truth. Without it one cannot please God. Outside of it no one can be saved.
In another issue he wrote:
The Catholic Church is the only Church founded by Jesus Christ. No one can call himself a Catholic and still reject the Pope. Disaster awaits one who cuts himself off from the Vicar of Christ; he will become an outcast without salvation. One who does not have the Church for his mother cannot have God for his father.
Let the same Faith, the same commandments, the same sacraments, and the same charity unite us all in life and in death. Above all, let us take advantage of the sacrament of Penance, the powerful means instituted by Christ Himself to confer the merits of His passion and death on our souls, to free them from the clutches of the devil, and to shut the gates of hell while opening those of heaven. Amen.
In 1979, when Brother Francis memorialized the recently-deceased Brother Hugh, he mentioned Brother Hugh’s role in the conversion of a prominent Italian-American Waldensian,
…Professor Augusto Bersani, a leader of the Waldensians [also called the Waldenses]. Brother Hugh labored “with the patience of Job” for twenty-five long years before achieving the conversion of this brilliant man who somehow had wandered into the poisoned pastures of heresy. Professor Bersani finally sent for a priest on his deathbed, and made his peace with God.
Like Don Bosco, Brother Hugh had insisted, over and over again, that the Waldensians cannot be saved as Waldensians, but only as Catholics — which, of course, requires conversion. Professor Bersani argued a lot, but was eventually won over. When we tell them they can be saved in their false religions, this sin against charity does not help them.
It’s like telling an alcoholic that it’s OK to indulge his appetite for booze, or an obese man that twelve Big Macs are healthy fare.
