Bishop
Schneider and Dr. Taylor Marshall directly oppose Pope Francis on the New
Theology : Vatican Council II is not a break with Tradition when the premise is
rational
There
are no explicit cases of St. Thomas Aquinas’ “implicit baptism of desire”.
Bishop
Athanasius Schneider and Dr.Taylor Marshall
broke new ground in the Catholic Church. In their interview the other day
they confirmed that there are no literal and visible cases of “implicit baptism
of desire”.
There
are no explicit cases of Catholics being saved outside the Church in
1965-2021.They are saying the obvious. There are no practical exceptions to
Vatican Council II(AG 7). AG 7 says all need faith and baptism for
salvation.All.
We
cannot see or meet someone saved or going to be saved, with the baptism of
desire who has a postal code number in our locality or city.
There are no practical exceptions for ‘the norm for salvation’. The norm is ‘faith
and baptism’(Ad Gentes 7).
This takes them on a head on collision course with Pope Francis and his interpretation of Vatican Council II with the New Theology. The New Theology says the baptism of desire refers to a visible case.Otherwise how could there be exceptions for the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) ?
They have
crashed with the Traditionis Custode understanding of the Council.
For
Pope Francis, Lumen Gentium 14 ( baptism of desire ) refers to an exception to
Feeneyite EENS.It is a break with EENS according to the missionaries of the
16th century.Vatican Council II was a rupture for the Council Fathers in 1965, Cardinal
Cushing, Fr. Joseph Ratzinger, Fr. Karl Rahner, Fr. John Courtney Murray sj,
Fr. Yves Congar op and Fr. Hans Kung sj.
So
now we have :-
Catechumens who, moved
by the Holy Spirit, seek with explicit intention to be incorporated into the
Church are by that very intention joined with her. With love and solicitude
Mother Church already embraces them as her own. (Lumen Gentium, 14)
Catechumens,
while not fully members of the Church, are united to the Church in a special
way (canon 206, 1183; Catechism 1249).
So now the Syllabus of
Errors of Pope Pius IX on an ecumenism of return is not contradicted by Lumen
Gentium 14.There are no practical exceptions mentioned in hypopthetical cases of Unitatis Redintigratio 3, Lumen Gentium 14
etc.Since they are always “implicit”. They exist only in our mind and not in
Newton’s measurable time and space.
Bishop Schneider is
refusing to interpret LG 14 with a false premise i.e what is invisible is
assumed to be physically visible. Then a new theology is created upon this
empirical error.
Pope Francis has to use the false premise to project Vatican Council II as a break with the Athanasius Creed ( all need Catholic faith for salvation). There is no liberalism without the false premise.
This was not known to Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. He saw the smoke originating from Vatican Council II but did not know the precise cause. He did not know where was the fire. Now we know.
Now we know.So why should Catholics interpret Vatican Council II like Pope Francis, Pope Benedict and Cardinal Luiz Ladaria and not like Bishop Schneider and Dr. Taylor Marshall. ?
The SSPX can accept and affirm Vatican Council II with Schneider’s
rational premise. So they would be accepting Vatican Council II and Tradition. They would not be in schism.-Lionel Andrades
AUGUST 25, 2021
Bishop Schneider is one step away from saying that Vatican Council II does not contradict Tradition and the SSPX are no more in schism
"Is the SSPX in schism ?", Bishop Athanasius Schneider is asked. He does not answer it with respect to Vatcian Council II.
The mainline newspapers have often stated that the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) is in schism since they reject the ‘reforms’ or ‘revolution’ of Vatican Council II.
The issue is Vatican Council II. The SSPX have often said that they reject Vatican Council II.
Bishop Bernard Fellay the former Superior General of the SSPX has cited UR 3 and LG 16 as exceptions to the past exclusivist ecclesiology of the Catholic Church. The Council has always been seen as a break with Tradition and even Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre rejected it.
So the SSPX are said to be in schism.
But the glimmer of hope, for a change, is the statement Bishop Athanasius Schneider made in this video. In a sense it is historic. It opens the possibility of change which will be good news for the SSPX.
He has said that there are no literal cases of the baptism of desire. We cannot judge if someone will be saved with the baptism of desire outside the Church. Only God can know this if it happens.
He is saying that being saved with the baptism of desire refers to invisible cases in 2021.There are no cases in our reality.
Now the next step is for him to see LG 16 as also being invisible in 2021.We cannot see someone saved with invincible ignorance or a good conscience, outside the Church.
There are no such cases in our human reality.
The same could be said for UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 , LG 8 etc. So they cannot be practical exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus which was a motivation for traditional mission.
So in this way he could say like me that Vatican Council II is dogmatic. It supports the dogma EENS and the Council is not a break with the Syllabus of Errors and traditional ecclesiocentrism.
It is then that the SSPX can fully affirm Vatican Council II and also Tradition. It does not have to be either-or.So then the charge of schism cannot be made against them.
The other point which needs to be clarified is that of the baptism of water. All need the baptism of water and also Catholic faith. Catholic faith is necessary for salvation says Vatican Council II(AG 7).Also the faith of the Catholic Church is necessary. So there must be a baptism of water and Catholic faith. The baptism of water is needed in the Catholic Church.
There are Christian denominations which have the baptism of water but approve mortal sins of faith, example, contraception, homosexual acts etc.So the baptism of water would be invalid over time.It would be the same in the Catholic Church. If someone is baptized but then commits mortal sins, he loses the Sanctifying Grace needed for salvation. This grace is restored in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Bishop Schneider has to specify that the baptism of water is needed in the Catholic Church. Since we cannot separate Jesus from His Mystical Body the Catholic Church.-Lionel Andrades
