The leftist version says Nostra Aetate 2, refers to those non Catholics saved with ' a ray of Truth' and these persons are known and visible to us.The traditional interpretation says they are not known to us and these cases are only possibilities. They are hypothetical for us.
The leftists say since these deceased are visible they are exceptions to the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church which says outside the Church there is no salvation and all must accept Jesus within the Catholic Church, and live the Gospel according to the teachings of this unique and only Church of Jesus Christ.
The leftists say since there is visible, known salvation outside the Church, the traditional teaching is 'triumphalism' and does not apply any more. The traditional interpretation however says there is no known exception outside the visible limits of the Church and so there is no doctrinal, theological and rational basis for the 'triumphalism' charge.
The leftist version is supported by the Commissioner for the Franciscans of the Immaculate, Fr.Fidenzio Volpi, OFM.Cap and it is forced upon the Franciscans of the Immaculate. It is assumed by Fr.Volpi, Cardinal João Braz de Aviz and Archbishop Jose Rodrigues Carbello, President and Secretary, of the Congregation for Consecrated Life, Vatican, that there can be only one interpretation of Vatican Council II- the leftist one.
Pope Francis and the Jesuits, similarly have a leftist concept of Vatican Council II.They will not state that Vatican Council II says all Jews, Muslims and others need 'faith and baptism' (AG 7 ) for salvation (to avoid Hell). They will not say that Vatican Council II supports Tradition ; the dogma on exclusive salvation and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The Vatican Curia expects traditionalists like the FSSP and the Institute of Christ the King to accept the leftist version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Vatican Council II.
So Braz, Carbello and Volpi will interpret CCC 846 (Outside the Church No Salvation) as saying all do not need to enter the Church as'through a door' (CCC 846) since there is known salvation outside the Church.
They will say all do not need 'faith and baptism' (CCC 846) for salvation, since the dead-saved in other religions, in invincible ignorance, the baptism of desire etc, are visible to us.
It is this irrational interpretation that the FSSP and the Institute of Christ the King have to accept to offer the Traditional Latin Mass. The Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, Vatican, has no problem with the Tridentine Rite Mass as long as the irrational interpretation of the Catechism (1993) and Vatican Council II is accepted.
According to Braz,Carbello and Volpi the Holy Spirit has guided the Church after Vatican Council II to accept his irrational and non traditional interpretation of magisterial documents. The visible-deceased interpretation is also used in other magisterial documents, notably the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 to the Archbishop of Boston relative to Fr.Leonard Feeney. It is assumed according to the leftist version that the baptism of desire (implicit desire) cases, mentioned in the Letter, are visible to us on earth. Then it is said that these visible-deceased are explicit exceptions to the traditional interpretation of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. This was the leftist interpretation of the Archbishop of Boston Cardinal Richard Cushing and the Jesuit community at that time. Fr.Leonard Feeney rejected the visible-dead irrationality. The Holy Office (CDF) never ever affirmed the dogma clearly. No one could say clearly in public that all non Catholics needed to enter the Church visibly with no exception, for salvation.
The present Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Gerhard Muller must clarify that there can be two interpretations of Vatican Council II and Catholics are expected to choose the rational one.
