Conservatives are still on the defensive and are allowing the National Catholic Reporter(NCR) to quote Vatican Council II with an irrationality, a false premise.Catholics do not correct the NCR and affirm the Council rationally in harmony with Tradition ( Syllabus of Errors, Athanasius Creed, EENS etc).
For me it is easy to affirm Vatican Council II without the irrationality since I am not a Lefebvrist and nor have I come to EENS through the St. Benedict Centers.
My experience of the Faith was different. In 1965 when Vatican Council II concluded I was still a school boy. I knew the Catechism in a Catholic family but knew no theology or Catholic philosophy.
I knew the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) could not be changed in its understanding and meaning but the popes from Paul VI interpreted Vatican Council II as a rupture with EENS. Their new understanding of EENS, was one with exceptions. Exceptions of the baptism of desire, baptism of blood and invincible ignorance and many more mentioned in Vatican Council II.
Vatican Council II was also a rupture with EENS for Fr. Nicholas Gruner, Chris Ferrara and John Vennari whose writings I would later discover.
So I too interpreted Vatican Council II as a rupture with EENS believing there is known salvation outside the Catholic Church.EENS had exceptions for me too.
But now I know that there are no physically visible exceptions to EENS and so there could be none mentioned in Vatican Council II.
But other conservative Catholics are still making the old, common mistake.
The Life Site News, Church Militant TV etc do not correct the NCR or the popes and cardinals when they interpret Vatican Council II assuming there is known salvation outside the Church. For them outside the Church there is salvation as if they can meet or see someone saved outside the Church who is an exception to the dogma EENS and exclusive salvation.
WHO SAW ST. EMERENTIANA IN HEAVEN WITHOUT THE BAPTISM OF WATER?
Who saw Sr. Emerentiana in Heaven without the baptism of water? When the ordinary means of salvation is 'faith and baptism' how can there be an extraordinary means of salvation for us human beings who cannot see particular people in Heaven?
The LifeSiteNews Catholic edition does not cover these important points in its editorial policy.
