Prof.Paul Lakeland has made an objective eror in the interpretation of Lumen Gentium.
In his paperback book A COUNCIL THAT
WILL NEVER END Paul Lakeland confused hypothetical
cases in Lumen Gentium as referring to non
hypothetical and real people saved outside the Church,
without faith and baptism. He misunderstood LG 8,
LG 14 and LG 16 as referring to known non Catholics
saved outside the Church, as if these were literal
cases in the present times. So for Paul Lakeland they

without faith and baptism. He misunderstood LG 8,

become practical exceptions to the past ecclesiology of
A Council That Will Never End:
Lumen Gentium and the Church Today
Paperback/Kindle Edition
Lumen Gentium, Vatican II's Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, changed how the
church thinks about the laity, holiness, baptism, and even the nature and purpose of
the church itself. In A Council That Will Never End, the highly regarded ecclesiologist
Paul Lakeland marks the fiftieth anniversary of this document's promulgation by
taking up three major themes of the constitution, analyzing the text, and identifying
some of the questions with which it leaves us. These themes are
- the role of the bishop in the church and the ways Lumen Gentium's teaching
- relates to various tensions in today's church
- the laity and in particular the mixed blessing of describing them in the category
- of "secularity"
- and the relationships between the church and the people of God and what
- they tell us about the ways in which all people are offered salvation.
Lakeland is convinced that Lumen Gentium leaves much unfinished business (as any
historical document must), that attending to it will take us beyond much of the
now sterile ecclesial divisions, and that the ecclesiology of humility it implies
marks the way that theology must guide the church in the years ahead.

For me Lumen Gentium has not changed how the Church
For me Lumen Gentium has not changed how the Church
thinks about the laity, holiness, baptism and
ecclesiology( The Church). It is the past ecclesiology of the
Church which is not contradicted by Lumen Gentium and
which is affirmed by Ad Gentes 7. So the past ecclesiology
with an ecumenism of return for other Christians, is
still the ecclesiology of the Catholic Church, today for me.
This is the Conciliar Church. It is Feeneyite and not
Cushingite.
Cushingite.

The National Catholic Reporter's reviews of the books by Fr. Jared Wicks sj and Prof. Paul Lakeland onVatican Council II, were flawed. The authors had made a mistake. Vatican Council II was interpreted
by them with false reasoning. The NCR must admit it. Both authors read the Council superficially.
Then they assumed hypothetical cases were objective exceptions to the past ecclesiology of the Church.
This is irrational. So the authors conclusions and those of the editors and correspondents of the NCR
were irrational, non traditional and an artifical rupture with Catholic theology and doctrines on salvation
etc.

Massimo Faggioli and Michael Sean Winters liberalism was based on an irrational
interpretation of Vatican Council II.The National Catholic Reporter had two
books reviewed, which interpreted Vatican Council II with the superficial and false
reasoning. The books were authored by Paul Lakeland and Fr. Jared Wicks sj.
