Institute of Christ the King, Fraternity of St. Peter, Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate and many other Catholic Traditional communities believe there are exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. There is no Magisterial document which supports them.
The Letter of the Holy Office 1949 does not say those saved in invincible ignorance or the baptism of desire are exceptions to the dogma. Nether does Vatican Council II or the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
All or most of these priests in Traditional religious communities approved by the Vatican consider those saved in invincible ignorance and the baptism of desire as defacto exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.
They are implying that the centuries interpretation of a defined dogma can be changed.
Since they personally assume that there are defacto exceptions to the dogma they imply that the baptism of desire is visible and known to us. This is an untruth. For centuries it was known that the baptism of desire was implicit and did not contradict the dogma. The traditionalist priests hold this belief in innocence.
Since they believe that those saved in invincible ignorance are defacto exceptions to the dogma they assume that we know these cases on earth. Only if these exceptional cases were visible to us they could be exceptions to the dogma, which says everyone needs to be a visible, explicit member of the Catholic Church for salvation.
They presume Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy when the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 says it was for disobedience. This is calumny.
Since they assert that Fr. Leonard Feeney was in error for saying there was no defacto known baptism of desire they criticize the popes and saints for saying the same thing. It is a criticism of the Ordinary and Extraordinary Magisterium of the popes over centuries.
They may hold these beliefs in innocence but if they do so after being informed its heresy. It’s a first-class heresy since its contradicts the Nicene Creed in which we pray, “I believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sin”.
This is an impediment to them offering the Traditional Latin Mass.
To knowingly hold these errors would be teaching falsehood to the Congergations who attend the Latin Mass.
