ROBERT KENNEDY ASKED RICHARD CUSHING TO SUPPRESS FR.LEONARD FEENEY

According to the memoirs of Edward Kennedy it was his brother Robert who asked Archbishop Richard Cushing to suppress Fr.Leonard Feeney.

Augustine. Aquinas. Luther. Bobby Kennedy?! [Mike Potemra]

Yes, it looks like all four played historic roles in the shaping of Christian theology. Reading Teddy Kennedy’s memoir, True Compass, just published today and already No. 2 on Amazon, I discovered a remarkable anecdote about how Bobby Kennedy may have been a crucial figure in the suppression of the controversial Boston Jesuit, Fr. Leonard Feeney. In Senator Ted’s account, Bobby, while a student at Harvard, was outraged at hearing Feeney declare that no non-Catholic can be saved:

[Bobby] discussed it with our father one weekend at the Cape house. I well remember the conversation.

Dad could not believe that Bobby had heard Father Feeney correctly. “But,” he said, “if you feel strongly that you did, I’m going to go into the other room and call Richard. Maybe he’ll want you to go up to Boston and see him.”

“Richard” was Richard Cardinal Cushing. Dad and the cardinal enjoyed a long and profound friendship. . . .

Bobby said he felt strongly indeed. Bang! Dad called up “Richard” and arranged for Bobby to visit him. The cardinal, as nonplussed as Dad, sent some of his people over to hear Father Feeney’s Thursday evening lecture. When he found that my brother was right, Cushing banned Feeney from speaking there; Feeney refused to obey the order, and in September 1949 the archdiocese formally condemned the priest’s teaching. . . . In February 1952, Father Feeney was excommunicated.

I knew someone a few years ago who was a close friend of Father Feeney; I have it on his authority that Feeney was a very decent fellow. But Feeney was, in fact, teaching a crudely literalistic understanding of the doctrine of “extra ecclesiam nulla salus” (outside the church, no salvation) in which “ecclesiam” meant the visible, hierarchical Roman Catholic Church, and “extra” meant outside of it in the most visible sense. No Rahnerian “anonymous Christians” here — or, for that matter, Ratzingerian “as many [ways to God] as there are people.” The excommunication of Feeney was a public declaration by Pius XII’s Vatican that Feeney’s interpretation was impermissible in Catholic theology. How important was Bobby Kennedy’s intervention? Teddy doesn’t exactly underemphasize it: "I believe, though I cannot be certain, that Bobby's concern resulted, over time, in . . . a major shift in Catholic teaching regarding the possibility of salvation for non-Catholics. . . . Bobby wasn’t the only critic of Father Feeney, of course, but he was among the first to achieve results. Nor did his principled gesture end with the banishment of Feeney. Reinforced by Cardinal Cushing’s discussions with the papal hierarchy in Rome, it became an animating impulse of the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, which opened under Pope John XXIII in 1962."

(I need to confess, yet again, my weakness for Irish blarney.) A confrontation between Father Feeney and the young Bobby Kennedy has been written about already; but I have never seen it alleged that Bobby and his father played an active role in the downfall of Feeney and his doctrine. This incident would go a long way toward explaining the later attitude of the Kennedys (most of them) to the Catholic Church: that it’s basically an ecclesiastical counterpart to the U.S. Senate, a place where reasonable people — who know whom to lean on, and how — can get mistakes in the law corrected.

N.B. Unlike certain other Massachusetts senators who shall remain nameless, Teddy got the Pope’s name right.

John H. Fenton article in the New York Times titled "Cardinal Cushing: Symbol of 'New Boston'". Feb. 6, 1964. Page 31. Start at the third paragraph under a section appropriately titled "Ties to the Kennedys."

The whole article is quite... interesting. Unfortunately, there is some bad fading in this photocopy which is completely unreadable. But the section in question is readable. I gave the date so someone could look it up on microfilm, or perhaps someone has a paid subscription for an online transcription. (note: I originally posted a link, but it won't work because it was tied into my library card account from an online free newspaper archive.)

Here is a section (three short consecutive paragraphs) from the Feb. 6 1964 New York Times article by John H. Fenton with the well known denial of dogma:

Turning to differences in dogma among Christians, Cardinal Cushing said, "We must recognize the obstacles, but we must not quarrel over them."

"We are told there is no salvation outside the church—nonsense!" the prelate said. "Nobody can tell me Christ died on Calvary for any select group."

Then, with a twinkle, he went on. "As the feller says, 'It is great to live with the saints in heaven, but it is hell to live with them on earth."

1.The Archbishop closed down  St.Benedict Center  and the issue was doctrinal, specifically the ex cathedra dogma.

2.He never in public affirmed the dogma.
3.He allowed Fr.Feeney to be criticized for affirming the dogma correctly.
4.He never discouraged the Jesuits in his archdiocese when they removed Fr.Feeney from their community because the issue was the interpretation of the dogma.
5.He never corrected the errors in the Boston newspapers regarding the dogma and this would spread throughout the world.
6.He delayed making public the Letter from the Holy Office 1949.
7.Even after it was issued there was no apology from him.
8.Even years after the excommunication was issued there was no move to remove the excommunication on Fr.Leonard Feeney.

Richard J. Cushing, Archbishop of Boston – Decree Regarding Leonard Feeney, April 18, 1949

Rev. Leonard Feeney, S.J., because of grave offense against the laws of the Catholic Church has lost the right to perform any priestly function, including preaching and teaching of religion...

Any Catholic who frequents  St. Benedict’s Center, or who in any way take part in or assist its activities forfeit the right to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Holy Eucharist. (Emphasis added)

The ex cathedra dogma shows us that  that Fr. Leonard Feeney was not in heresy.Instead it was the Archbishop Cushing who was in heresy. He gave Catholics a new doctrine. He was tacitly saying implicit baptism of desire was explicit like the baptism of water. This is heretical since he  contradicted an infallible teaching extra ecclesiam nulla salus which says everyone needs to be an explicit(visible) member of the Catholic Church to avoid Hell.

Repost : Her father was expelled by Boston College because of the Magisterial Heresy

(Sr.Marie Therese is one of the religious at the st.benedict center, new hampshire whom the diocese of manchester and the congregation for the doctrine of the faith do not recognise as a catholic and have  placed prohibitions upon her too.)

 SEPTEMBER 29, 2015

Her father was expelled by Boston College because of the Magisterial Heresy

Sister Marie Thérèse, M.I.C.M.
Her father was expelled by Boston College because of the Magisterial Heresy.
Sr. Marie Therese, MICM is the eldest daughter of Dr. Fakhri Maluf a Catholic professor at Boston College. He was expelled by the Jesuits when the Jesuit Rector and Provinicial made a factual mistake - and the Magisterium in Rome supported them!
After some 70 years we now know that the Magisterium made a mistake. It was magisterial heresy in the Catholic Church from 1949.
Dr.Fakhri Maluf held the traditional interpretation of the dogmaextra ecclesiam nulla salus and was supported by Fr. Leonard Feeney.
Archbishop Richard Cushing approved the Boston College expulsion of the professors. For him there were exceptions to the centuries old interpretation of the dogma on exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church.
For Cardinal Cushing being saved in invincible ignorance, the baptism of desire and the baptism of blood, all referred to persons who were in Heaven without the baptism of water. This was also the understanding of the liberal Jesuit theologians in Boston. For them there were exceptions to the centuries old interpretation of the dogma on salvation.
What they did not realize was that if there were exceptions to the dogma then these cases would be known and seen to be exceptions.
They did not ask themself how could people in Heaven be exceptions to all needing to formally enter the Church in the present times( 1940's).
How can non existing cases in their reality be exceptions to all needing to be 'card carrying members' of the Church for salvation?
But them perhaps they knew all this but went ahead with their irrationality.
The late Senator Edward Kennedy wrote in his memoirs that he was present when his brother Robert Kennedy phoned Archbiship Cushing and told him to do something about Fr. Leonard Feeney.
Pope Pius XII kept silent over this issue.
Sr.Marie Therese's father remained expelled by a Catholic college and Fr. Leonard Feeney remained excommunicated and the Magisterium did not announce that people in Heaven  could not be exceptions  to the literal interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla salus.
The Magisterium after 1949 made a factual mistake. An injustice was done to Sr. Marie Therese' father.

Pope Francis Turns Church Into Protestant Denomination – Cardinal Burke

Pope Francis Turns Church Into Protestant Denomination – Cardinal Burke

Pope Francis is giving authority to individual bishops and Bishops' Conferences, Cardinal Raymond Burke has noticed, “But this is not the Catholic Church.”

Talking to TheWandererPress.com (January 10), Burke points out that the fluid concept of synodality is relativizing the papal office and therefore constitutes “a principle of rupture rather than a development of doctrine”.

According to the cardinal, Francis uses synodality to advance a “revolution” turning the Church into a denomination with multiplying divisions and principles akin to those put in force by the Protestant Reformers come into play.

As an example Burke points out that the Church may not have the same teachings and disciplines with regard to the Eucharist or marriage from one nation to another.

Francis’ agreement with the Chinese regime Burke calls a "repudiation of generations of martyrs and confessors of the Faith".

He further called homosexual fornication “disordered” stating that a part of the U.S. bishops is pushing for the acceptance of homosexuality and is “not coherent with the Church on these issues” [and therefore is heretical].

False concept of being 'Catholic' legally being forced upon the St. Benedict Center and Catholics in Manchester,USA

The long list of prohibitions placed upon the St.Benedict Center, in New Hampshire, is oppressive with the community being asked theologically, to claim unknown cases of the baptism of desire, baptism of blood and being saved in invincible ignorance are known exceptions to Vatican Council II which says all need faith and baptism for salvation. The Council really supports exclusive salvation in the Church and this is not being admitted by the Curia in the Diocese of  Manchester.
Bishop Peter Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, wants the community at the St. Benedict Center to lie and violate their conscience and deny that the Church still teaches exclusive salvation in Vatican Council II.Otherwise restrictions will continue to be placed upon them.
In other words, to be Catholic, for Bishop Libasci, I and millions of other Catholics have to claim that we can physically see non Catholics in Heaven or on earth saved outside the Catholic Church, saved without faith and baptism. This would be a denial of exclusive salvation in the Church and would constitute being Catholic for the CDF and the Bishop's Curia in Manchester.
If being a Catholic means having to tell a lie officially, use an irrational philosophy and a fantasy theology based upon being able to see people in Heaven saved outside the Church, then I am not this type of 'Catholic'.
It also means all the popes and saints of the past who affirmed exclusive salvation, now supported by Vatican Council II, were  not really  Catholic for the Secretaries at the CDF and the Curia in Diocese of Manchester.
This means even St. Thomas Aquinas was not a Catholic. Since he affirmed the strict interpretation of the dogma EENS and when he referred to BOD and I.I he knew that they were not personally known people and so exceptions to EENS. This is something obvious.Even the bishop, chancellor and Episcopal Vicar agree that they do not know any case of BOD, BOB and I.I in 2019.
Similarly when the Magisterium in the 16th century  affirmed traditional EENS they knew that there could be no literal exceptions known to human beings.
Cardinal Luiz Ladaria sj, the Prefect of the CDF too would  agree that he does not know any one in 2019 saved outside the Church with BOD, BOB and I.I.All the cardinals and bishops would say the same.
So this is a false concept of being Catholic which is being forced upon the SBC.
The leftist CDF and Bishop Libasci  want to create a schism in the Catholic Church. They are changing Catholic dogmatic teaching on exclusive salvation by using a false premise(invisible non Catholics are visible) and false inference( these visible known non Catholics are visible examples of salvation outside the Church)  and false conclusion( since there is known salvation outside the Church the dogma EENS is obsolete and has been contradicted by Vatican Council II).

Diocesan of Manchester needs to clarify its doctrinal position for Catholics

The Diocese of Manchester and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(CDF) are  asking the St. Benedict Center, in New Hampshire to interpret Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a rupture with Ad Gentes 7 which says all need faith and baptism for salvation. This is irrational.
The Diocese which has placed restrictions on the Catholic community in New Hampshire, needs to clarify for all Catholics :-
1 Invisible cases of the baptism of desire, baptism of blood and being saved in invincible ignorance are not physically visible exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus or Vatican Council II and neither to Ad Gentes 7 which says all need faith and baptism for salvation ?
2.Invisible and unknown cases  referenced in  LG 8, LG 14, LG 16, UR 3 NA 2, GS 22 etc of Vatican Council II, are not personally known cases in 2019 and so exceptions to the dogma EENS as it is known to the St. Benedict Center and and also to the popes and saints over the centuries ?
The St.Benedict Center has doctrinally clarified their position on this subject.  1

Bishop Peter Libasci assumes invisible people are visible : claims that legally this is being 'Catholic'

The Diocese of Manchester does not have the legal right to call itself Catholic when it assumes unknown cases of the baptism of desire(BOD) are known exceptions to all needing faith and baptism for salvation(Ad Gentes 7).It is the same with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(CDF),Vatican.
It is a lie and deception for Bishop Peter Libasci, the bishop of Manchester, to suggest that invisible cases of being saved in invincible ignorance(I.I) are visible exceptions to EENS, as it is  interpreted by the St.Benedict Center in his diocese.
It is also un-ethical and unprofessional for the lay Chancellor,Diane Quinlin, to indicate that hypothetical cases( BOD, I.I etc) are practical exceptions in 2019 to the SBC position on EENS and so the SBC community members do not have a legal right to call themselves Catholic.
In a court of law this would be seen as deception and subterfuge. This would be a misuse of power. It could be seen as coercion with false information.
This is not being Catholic.
Also Catholics in other  parts of the USA could accuse Bishop Libasci and the CDF Secretaries under secular laws as hiding the truth and then persecuting other Catholics in the diocese.
The Bishop of Manchester and the SBC agree that Vatican Council II supports exclusive salvation and no objective exceptions are mentioned in the Council text.
Also numerous cardinals and bishops affirm Ad Gentes 7  and agree that we cannot know of any objective exceptions to Ad Gentes 7 and Cantate Domino, Council of Florence 1441 on extra ecclesiam nulla salus. This is a fact of life.
So this is the Conciliar Church today.
The SBC knows that AG 7 says all need faith and baptism for salvation and that the bishop, chancellor and Episcopal Vicar  in the Diocese of Manchester agree that they do not know of any exceptions personally.
So Bishop Peter Libasci and the SBC are saying that there are only Catholics in Heaven and they are there with faith and baptism(AG 7) and - that no one at the Chancery offices, or SBC , know of any exception in 2019. This is a Feeneyite reading of Vatican Council II and other Magisterial text.It is a rational approach.
The rest of the Catholic Church would agree with them.
Both groups are affirming Cantate Domino,Council of Florence 1441 which also says that there is exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church and does not mention any exceptions.
So Bishop Peter Libasci  must not assume invisible people are visible and then claim this is being Catholic, legally.
He needs to clarify on the website of the Diocese of Manchester that this is incorrect.
