POPE JOHN PAUL II, PIUS XII TAUGHT EX CATHEDRA INTERPRETATION OF EXTRA ECCLESIAM NULLA SALUS

Pope John Paul II and Pope Pius XII, Servant of God maintained the strict interpretation of the missionary dogma extra eclesiam nulla salus, outside the Church there is no salvation. Explicit entry into the Church, the Mystical Body of Jesus was obligatory for all people with no exception.

Pope Pius XII was precise and referred to the ‘dogma’ as the ‘infallible teaching’. (Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican 1949). Pope John Paul II expressed the same teaching in Dominus Iesus 20 and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Notification on Fr. Jacques Dupuis S.J in 2001(N.6,7), a year after Dominus Iesus was issued. They both affirmed the  ex cathedra dogma.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma referred to by Pope Pius XII.

• “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.” (Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215.)

• “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Pope Boniface VIII, the Bull Unam Sanctam, 1302.)

• “The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.) - from the website Catholicism.org and “No Salvation outside the Church”: Link List, the Three Dogmatic Statements Regarding EENS)
http://nosalvationoutsideofthecatholicchurch.blogspot.com/

Here is Pope John Paul II with the same message as the dogma.

20. From what has been stated above, some points follow that are necessary for theological reflection as it explores the relationship of the Church and the other religions to salvation.
Above all else, it must be firmly believed that “the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mk 16:16; Jn 3:5), and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through baptism as through a door”.77 This doctrine must not be set against the universal salvific will of God (cf. 1 Tim 2:4); “it is necessary to keep these two truths together, namely, the real possibility of salvation in Christ for all mankind and the necessity of the Church for this salvation”.78 –Dominus Iesus (Emphasis added)
IV. On the orientation of all human beings to the Church

6. It must be firmly believed that the Church is sign and instrument of salvation for all people. It is contrary to the Catholic faith to consider the different religions of the world as ways of salvation complementary to the Church.
7. According to Catholic doctrine, the followers of other religions are oriented to the Church and are all called to become part of her. –Notification on Fr. Jacques Dupuis, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Vatican. (Emphasis added)
55. Dialogue should be conducted and implemented with the conviction that the Church is the ordinary means of salvation and that she alone possesses the fullness of the means of salvation. - Redemptoris Missio (Emphasis added)

The dogma says the same:

• “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.” (Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215.)
There are other teachings of Pope John Paul II which have the same message e.g. in the Catechism of the Catholic Church it is written the Catholic Church knows of no way to eternal beatitude other than the baptism of water, the Church is the only Ark of Noah that saves in the flood, God wants all people to be united in the Catholic Church etc.
However the Catechism also mentions that God is not limited to the Sacraments (CCC 1257).The Letter of the Holy Office approved by Pope Pius XII mentions implicit salvation in ‘certain circumstances’. This is in accord with Lumen Gentium 16, 20. In principle (de jure) a non Catholic can be saved without the Sacraments (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1257). However at the de facto level, the level of personal contact, there can be no exceptions to the need of Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water for salvation for all people. (Dominus Iesus 20). There can be no exceptions known to us personally. We cannot say that a specific person has a genuine baptism of desire. Only Jesus can judge.

Hence the dogma states de facto

• “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.” (Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215.)

• “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Pope Boniface VIII, the Bull Unam Sanctam, 1302.)
So when Fr. Leonard Feeney said that there is no baptism of desire he was referring  to de facto salvation. De jure there can be exceptions. De facto none.

Pope John Paul stated: de facto that the Church was ‘necessary for salvation’, it was the ‘instrument of salvation for all people’,’ the followers of other religions are oriented to the Church and are all called to become part of her.’ He emphasized ALL. He said the Church is the ordinary means of salvation and that she alone possesses the fullness of the means of salvation.

According to Wikipedia

In his encyclical Mystici Corporis, 103 Pope Pius XII said that "those who do not belong to the visible Body of the Catholic Church… We ask each and every one of them to correspond to the interior movements of grace, and to seek to withdraw from that state in which they cannot be secure about their salvation. [Cf. Pius IX, Iam Vos Omnes, 13 Sept. 1868] For even though by an unconscious desire and longing have a certain relationship with the Mystical Body of the Redeemer, they still remain deprived of those many heavenly gifts and helps which can only be enjoyed in the Catholic Church."
The above passage is a reference to de jure salvation. If it was a reference to de facto salvation it would contradict the dogma, the infallible teaching with Pope Pius XII referred to. It would be contrary to the Principle of No Contradiction i.e. we cannot say that everybody needs to enter the Church with no exceptions and also say there are exceptions de facto to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

Wikipedia continues with its contradictory-error.

As indicated above, the Catholic Church rejects both Feeneyism and (by stating that "they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it") the contrary notion that one can be saved while knowingly and deliberately rejecting the Catholic Church.-Wikipedia
The Catholic Church rejects the bias of Wikipedia and affirms the dogma as interpreted ex cathedra by the popes and affirmed by Vatican Council II (Ad Gentes 7, Lumen Gentium 14)

ANGELO AMATO FURTHERS CAUSE OF MISSIONARY PIUS XII: CALLS FOR DIALOGUE WITH PROCLAMATION

Archbishop Angelo Amato, Prefect for the Congregation for the Cause of the Saint has said inter religious dialogue should not exclude proclamation. He was in accord with Pope Pius XII whose cause for beatification he has pushed ahead. The Servant of God approved Catholic Mission in its purity of doctrine- calling for a proclamation based on the dogma which said all non-Catholics need to explicitly enter the Catholic Church to avoid Hell and go to Heaven

Archbishop Angelo Amato was speaking at a conference on ecumenism and inter religious dialogue organised  in Emilia Romagna, Italy according to Avvenire ( Amato: il dialogo non exclude l'nnuncio ' Stefano Andrini da Bologna Dec3.2009,Avvenire p.16 Catholica)

At the conference the archbishop did not mention the surprise but welcome announcement of the decree placing Pope Pius XII and Pope John Paul II closer to beatification.

It was Pope Pius XII who gave us the missionary mandate when he approved the missionary dogma which would later be corroborated by the Vatican Council II.

In 1949 Pope Pius XIII  approved the Letter to the Archbishop of Boston regarding Fr. Leonard Feeney which specifically called the dogma the infallible teaching.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma that Pope Pius XII affirmed as the ‘infallible teaching’.

No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.)
-from the website Catholicism.org and “No Salvation outside the Church”: Link List, (http://nosalvationoutsideofthecatholicchurch.blogspot.com/, The Three Dogmatic Statements Regarding EENS)

Vatican Council II would follow by saying Christians and other non Catholics would need to enter the Catholic Church to go to Heaven and avoid Hell.

Lumen Gentium 14 would indicate that the leaders of the Orthodox Churches and Protestant communities who are educated and informed need to enter the Catholic Church with Catholic Faith to avoid Hell.

Ad Gentes 7. … all must be converted to Him, made known by the Church's preaching, and all must be incorporated into Him by baptism and into the Church which is His body. For Christ Himself "by stressing in express language the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mark 16:16; John 3:5), at the same time confirmed the necessity of the Church, into which men enter by baptism, as by a door…’
Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II is saying that all Christians need to convert into the Catholic Church for salvation. The dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus also says every one of them.

Ad Gentes 7: ‘Therefore those men cannot be saved, who though aware that God, through Jesus Christ founded the Church as something necessary, still do not wish to enter into it, or to persevere in it."…
Those participating in inter religious dialogue and ecumenism, are educated and aware. They are oriented to Hell according to Ad Gentes 7 and Lumen Gentium 14, Vatican Council II.

Ad Gentes 7 would repeat the message of the ex cathedra dogma that everyone; all people, need Catholic Faith and the baptism of water to avoid Hell and go to Heaven.

Archbishop Angelo Amato said inter religious dialogue should not be substituted for Christian proclamation or to cancel mission and evangelization by the Catholic Church.

In a certain sense missionary institutes, he said, have  lost or reduced the presentation of the Gospel at the cost of social activism’

So in the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 Pope Pius XII was saying that every Jew in Boston needed to convert to go to Heaven and avoid Hell. This was also the message of Fr. Leonard Feeney and the communities he founded, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Two of the communities have been approved by the Diocese of Worcester, USA where they have been granted canonical status. They proclaim the Gospel even amidst social action.

When the Archbishop was the Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith he called for mission and evangelisation based on Vatican Council II. In an interview with Avvenire he cited the text of Ad Gentes 7 and Lumen Gentium 14.

He is calling for a proclamation in accord with the teachings of the dogma as proclaimed by Pope Pius XII.

So proclamation cannot be restricted to a vague reference to Jesus but to Jesus within the Catholic Church. Ecumenism calls for unity of all Christians within the doctrines and Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Otherwise it could be opposed to the dogma and so heresy, a mortal sin.

POPE PIUS XII SUPPORTED FR.LEONARD FEENEY IN EXTRA ECCLESIAM NULLA SALUS AND THE JEWS

In the Wikipedia entry on ‘Fr.Leonard Feeney’ there is heavy propaganda by a lobby as if  to hide the truth from Catholics about extra ecclesiam nulla salus and the Boston Case.

1) Wikipedia, the internet encylopedia  cannot  produce a Catholic Church text which says Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy. All the documentation refers to ‘disobedience’.

2) Wikipedia agrees Fr. Leonard Feeney held the ‘strict’ actual interpretation of the dogma. So how could he be excommunicated for heresy?

3) Wikipedia never mentions that the Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican 1949 affirms the dogma, specifically by name.

4) Wikipedia makes no mention of Vatican Council II affirming the dogma outside the Church no salvation (LG 14, AG 7)

5) If as Wikipedia says he was excommunicated for heresy then it means  Pope Pius XI was fallible. Since he was contradicting many other popes. It means popes are  not infallible when  speaking ex cathedra and that dogmas can change or be reinterpreted.

In 1949 Pope Pius XII approved the Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican to the Archbishop of Boston with reference to Fr.Leonard Feeney. The Letter endorsed ‘the dogma’, the ‘infallible teaching’ and so supported the priest in the Boston Case.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma that Pope Pius XII affirmed as the ‘infallible teaching’.

Leonard Feeney
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Father Leonard Feeney (b. Lynn, Massachusetts 1897-02-18 - d. Ayer, Massachusetts 1978-01-30 )[1] was a U.S. Jesuit priest who defended the strict interpretation of the Roman Catholic doctrine, extra Ecclesiam nulla salus ("outside The Church there is no salvation"), arguing that baptism of blood and baptism of desire are unavailing and that therefore no non-Catholics will be saved.[2][1] He fought against what he perceived to be the liberalization of Catholic doctrine.[1]
Fr. Leonard Feeney said de facto everyone needs to enter the Catholic Church for salvation and there were no exceptions. De facto we cannot specifically say that any particular person has a genuine baptism of desire or a good conscience. This was the ex cathedra dogma . The dogma is about de facto salvation. This was Pope Pius XII's teaching.
De jure (in principle) a non Catholic can be saved with the baptism of blood or in invincible ignorance. This however is known only to God. Only Jesus can judge such a case.Again, Pope Pius would agree with him regarding implicit salvation.
However the ordinary way to go to Heaven is Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water for all people (Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II,CCC 1257).

So in the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 Pope Pius XII was saying that every Jew in Boston needed to convert to go to Heaven and  avoid Hell. This was also the message of Fr.Leonard Feeney and the communities he founded, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Two of the communities have been approved by the Diocese of Worcester,USA where they have been granted canonical status.

ANOTHER ARCHBISHOP OF BOSTON OPPOSES POPE PIUS XII

It was the former Archbishop of Boston Richard Cushing who refused to publicly teach the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. In a rare rebellion for a cardinal at that time,  the Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican 1948, was made public three years after he received it. The Letter addressed to the Archbishop of Boston was approved by Pope Pius XII, Servant of God who is on his way to sainthood. The Letter endorsed the ex cathedra dogma and called it the ‘infallible teaching’. The dogma stated as did Fr. Leonard Feeney of Boston, that de facto everyone needs to enter the Catholic Church for salvation and there were no exceptions.
Today the Archbishop of Boston Cardinal Sean O’Malley opposes the dogma and Pope Pius XII Letter to the Archbishop of Boston, relative to Fr. Leonard Feeney. He is not being excommunicated. Neither is an interdict being placed on him as was done for the priest from Boston, founder of the Catholic communities, Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The dogma indicated that every Jew, and non Catholic in Boston, needs to enter the Catholic Church with the baptism of water to go to Heaven and not to go to Hell.
The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) , whom Cardinal O’Malley and Jewish Left organizations have criticized, support the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. They endorse what the Jewish left media and groups refer to as, the pejorative ‘strict interpretation’ of the dogma.
Cardinal Richard Cushing placed a prohibition (interdict) on St. Benedict Center and Fr. Leonard Feeney. Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston were prohibited from visiting. When the excommunication against Fr. Leonard Feeney for disobedience to the Archbishop, was lifted, without the priest having to recant, there was no apology from the Archbishop of Boston’s Office. Neither is there still an apology from the Jesuits who expelled  Fr. Leonard Feeney from the community, for affirming the dogma which they would never ever.

Presently, Jewish Left, pro Israel organizations in Boston,  are allowed to approve the religious syllabus for Catholic schools and now even the Catechism clases in the Archdiocese  is  overlooked and approved by the Jewish Anti Defamation League (ADL) and the Center for Jewish Christian Learning Boston College. (See the website of the Archdiocese of Boston, Ecumenical and Inter Religious Dept..). These pro-homosexual-abortion-euthanasia organizations are allowed to enter the Catechism classroom in the archdiocese and determine Catholic Religious Education.
The Archbishop of Boston allows them to spread their message that Jews do not have to convert, their Covenant is everlasting and valid, there is no mortal sin, there is no objective reality at the supernatural level it is all relative and, that  different religions are equal paths to salvation.
According to the Archdiocese website their relationship with Jews is based on Nostra Aetate, Vatican Council II which is interpreted as keeping good relations and so not mentioning or affirming the dogma, neither Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II.
Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II is saying that all Jews in Boston need to convert to for salvation. The dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus also says all Jews in Boston.
Ad Gentes 7: ‘Therefore those men cannot be saved, who though aware that God, through Jesus Christ founded the Church as something necessary, still do not wish to enter into it, or to persevere in it."…
The Jewish Left groups active in the archdiocese are educated and aware. They are oriented to Hell according to Ad Gentes7 and Lumen Gentium 14, Vatican Council II.

Here is the sad decree issued by the Archbishop of Boston, Cardinal Richard Cushing.
April 18, 1949

Rev. Leonard Feeney, S.J., because of grave offense against the laws of the Catholic Church has lost the right to perform any priestly function, including preaching and teaching of religion.
Any Catholics who frequent St. Benedict’s Center, or who in any way take part in or assist its activities forfeit the right to receive the Sacrament of Penance and Holy Eucharist.
Given at Boston on the 18th day of April, 1949.
______________________________________________________________________________
Here is the Letter of the Holy Office under Pope Pius XII which affirmed the dogma and criticized Fr.Leonard Feeney for disobeying the Archbishop of Boston who at that time was assumed to be faithful to the Catholic Church. Time would prove otherwise.

To: Richard J. Cushing, Archbishop of Boston.

LETTER OF THE HOLY OFFICE

From the Headquarters of the Holy Office, Aug. 8, 1949.
Your Excellency:

This Supreme Sacred Congregation has followed very attentively the rise and the course of the grave controversy stirred up by certain associates of “St. Benedict Center” and “Boston College” in regard to the interpretation of that axiom: “Outside the Church there is no salvation.”

After having examined all the documents that are necessary or useful in this matter, among them information from your Chancery, as well as appeals and reports in which the associates of “St. Benedict Center” explain their opinions and complaints, and also many other documents pertinent to the controversy, officially collected, the same Sacred Congregation is convinced that the unfortunate controversy arose from the fact that the axiom, “outside the Church there is no salvation,” was not correctly understood and weighed, and that the same controversy was rendered more bitter by serious disturbance of discipline arising from the fact that some of the associates of the institutions mentioned above refused reverence and obedience to legitimate authorities.

Accordingly, the Most Eminent and Most Reverend Cardinals of this Supreme Congregation, in a plenary session held on Wednesday, July 27, 1949, decreed, and the august Pontiff in an audience on the following Thursday, July 28, 1949, deigned to give his approval, that the following explanations pertinent to the doctrine, and also that invitations and exhortations relevant to discipline be given:

We are bound by divine and Catholic faith to believe all those things which are contained in the word of God, whether it be Scripture or Tradition, and are proposed by the Church to be believed as divinely revealed, not only through solemn judgment but also through the ordinary and universal teaching office [Denzinger, n. 1792].

Now, among those things which the Church has always preached and will never cease to preach is contained also that infallible statement by which we are taught that there is no salvation outside the Church.

However, this dogma must be understood in that sense in which the Church herself understands it. For, it was not to private judgments that Our Savior gave for explanation those things that are contained in the deposit of faith, but to the teaching authority of the Church.

Now, in the first place, the Church teaches that in this matter there is question of a most strict command of Jesus Christ. For He explicitly enjoined on His apostles to teach all nations to observe all things whatsoever He Himself had commanded (Matt. 28: 19-20).

Now, among the commandments of Christ, that one holds not the least place by which we are commanded to be incorporated by baptism into the Mystical Body of Christ, which is the Church, and to remain united to Christ and to His Vicar, through whom He Himself in a visible manner governs the Church on earth.
Therefore, no one will be saved who, knowing the Church to have been divinely established by Christ, nevertheless refuses to submit to the Church or withholds obedience from the Roman Pontiff, the Vicar of Christ on earth.

Not only did the Savior command that all nations should enter the Church, but He also decreed the Church to be a means of salvation without which no one can enter the kingdom of eternal glory.

In His infinite mercy God has willed that the effects, necessary for one to be saved, of those helps to salvation which are directed toward man’s final end, not by intrinsic necessity, but only by divine institution, can also be obtained in certain circumstances when those helps are used only in desire and longing. This we see clearly stated in the Sacred Council of Trent, both in reference to the sacrament of regeneration and in reference to the sacrament of penance [Denzinger, nn. 797, 807].
The same in its own degree must be asserted of the Church, in as far as she is the general help to salvation. Therefore, that one may obtain eternal salvation, it is not always required that he be incorporated into the Church actually as a member, but it is necessary that at least he be united to her by desire and longing.
However, this desire need not always be explicit, as it is in catechumens; but when a person is involved in invincible ignorance God accepts also an implicit desire, so called because it is included in that good disposition of soul whereby a person wishes his will to be conformed to the will of God.

These things are clearly taught in that dogmatic letter which was issued by the Sovereign Pontiff, Pope Pius XII, on June 29, 1943, Mystici Corporis - On the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ (AAS, Vol. 35, an. 1943, p. 193 ff.). For in this letter the Sovereign Pontiff clearly distinguishes between those who are actually incorporated into the Church as members, and those who are united to the Church only by desire.

Discussing the members of which the Mystical Body is composed here on earth, the same august Pontiff says: “Actually only those are to be included as members of the Church who have been baptized and profess the true faith, and who have not been so unfortunate as to separate themselves from the unity of the Body, or been excluded by legitimate authority for grave faults committed.”
Toward the end of this same encyclical letter, when most affectionately inviting to unity those who do not belong to the body of the Catholic Church, he mentions those who “are related to the Mystical Body of the Redeemer by a certain unconscious yearning and desire,” and these he by no means excludes from eternal salvation, but on the other hand states that they are in a condition “in which they cannot be sure of their salvation” since “they still remain deprived of those many heavenly gifts and helps which can only be enjoyed in the Catholic Church” (AAS, 1. c., p. 243). With these wise words he reproves both those who exclude from eternal salvation all united to the Church only by implicit desire, and those who falsely assert that men can be saved equally well in every religion (cf. Pope Pius IX, Allocution, Singulari quadam, [in Denzinger, n. 1641 ff.]; also Pope Pius IX in the encyclical letter, Quanto conficiamur moerore, [in Denzinger, n. 1677].

But it must not be thought that any kind of desire of entering the Church suffices that one may be saved. It is necessary that the desire by which one is related to the Church be animated by perfect charity. Nor can an implicit desire produce its effect, unless a person has supernatural faith: “For he who comes to God must believe that God exists and is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Heb. 11:6). The Council of Trent declares (Session VI, chap. 8): “Faith is the beginning of man’s salvation, the foundation and root of all justification, without which it is impossible to please God and attain to the fellowship of His children” [Denzinger, n. 801].

From what has been said it is evident that those things which are proposed in the periodical "From the Housetops", fascicle 3, as the genuine teaching of the Catholic Church are far from being such and are very harmful both to those within the Church and those without.
From these declarations which pertain to doctrine, certain conclusions follow which regard discipline and conduct, and which cannot be unknown to those who vigorously defend the necessity by which all are bound of belonging to the true Church and of submitting to the authority of the Roman Pontiff and of the Bishops “whom the Holy Ghost has placed . . . to rule the Church” (Acts 20:28).

Hence, one cannot understand how the St. Benedict Center can consistently claim to be a Catholic school and wish to be accounted such, and yet not conform to the prescriptions of canons 1381 and 1382 of the Code of Canon Law, and continue to exist as a source of discord and rebellion against ecclesiastical authority and as a source of the disturbance of many consciences.
Furthermore, it is beyond understanding how a member of a religious Institute, namely Father Feeney, presents himself as a “Defender of the Faith,” and at the same time does not hesitate to attack the catechetical instruction proposed by lawful authorities, and has not even feared to incur grave sanctions threatened by the sacred canons because of his serious violations of his duties as a religious, a priest, and an ordinary member of the Church.

Finally, it is in no wise to be tolerated that certain Catholics shall claim for themselves the right to publish a periodical, for the purpose of spreading theological doctrines, without the permission of competent Church authority, called the “imprimatur,“ which is prescribed by the sacred canons.

Therefore, let them who in grave peril are ranged against the Church seriously bear in mind that after “Rome has spoken” they cannot be excused even by reasons of good faith. Certainly, their bond and duty of obedience toward the Church is much graver than that of those who as yet are related to the Church “only by an unconscious desire.” Let them realize that they are children of the Church, lovingly nourished by her with the milk of doctrine and the sacraments, and hence, having heard the clear voice of their Mother, they cannot be excused from culpable ignorance, and therefore to them apply without any restriction that principle: submission to the Catholic Church and to the Sovereign Pontiff is required as necessary for salvation.

In sending this letter, I declare my profound esteem, and remain,

Your Excellency’s most devoted,

F. Cardinal Marchetti-Selvaggiani.

Alfredo Cardinal Ottaviani, Assessor.

Here is the excommunication  which would be lifted without Fr.Leonard Feeney having to recant on extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

Pius XII's Official Decree of Excommunication

of the Jesuit Leonard Feeney,
February 13, 1953
Prior to the excommunication, Feeney received the following summons to appear before the Holy Office from Cardinal Pizzardo on November 22, 1952.

The Holy Office has been obliged repeatedly to make your teaching and conduct in the Church the object of its special care and attention, and recently, after having again carefully examined and calmly weighed all the evidence collected in your cause, it has found it necessary to bring this question to a conclusion.

DECREE
THE PRIEST LEONARD FEENEY IS DECLARED EXCOMMUNICATED
Since the priest Leonard Feeney, a resident of Boston (Saint Benedict Center), who for a long time has been suspended a divinis for grave disobedience toward church authority, has not, despite repeated warnings and threats of incurring excommunication ipso facto, come to his senses, the Most Eminent and Reverend Fathers, charged with safeguarding matters of faith and morals, have, in a Plenary Session held on Wednesday 4 February 1953, declared him excommunicated with all the effects of the law.

On Thursday, 12 February 1953, our Most Holy Lord Pius XII, by Divine Providence Pope, approved and confirmed the decree of the Most Eminent Fathers, and ordered that it be made a matter of public law.
Given at Rome, at the headquarters of the Holy Office, 13 February 1953.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma that Pope Pius XII approved.

No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.)

POPE PIUS XII BELIEVED JEWS AT AUSCHWITZ, ELSEWHERE ORIENTED TO HELL

The Servant of God and Vicar of Christ Pope Pius XII loved the Jews and saved many of them from being killed. There is enough documentation to corroborate his role in protecting Jews.Even the political leaders of Israel at that time, thanked him publicly.

Pope Pius XII as a Catholic and pontiff believed Jews needed to believe in Jesus and be baptized in the Catholic Church to go to Heaven. So during the confusion in Boston created by the Archbishop, the Jesuits and the Jewish Left media he supported positively the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. (Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican 1949). He taught, what the secular media refers to as the ‘strict interpretation’ of extra ecclesiam nulla salus, outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation.

Yet there can be only one interpretation of a Catholic dogma. Pope Pius XII called it the ‘infallible teaching’, ‘the dogma’.

According to our ‘infallible teaching’ the Jews at Auschwitz were oriented to Hell at the time of death. Since they died with Original Sin and mortal sins committed in that state. They did not have the help of the Sacraments. The Sacraments in the Catholic Church are means of salvation for all who use them. Since the Catholic Church, the Bible tells us, is the Mystical Body of Jesus. Jesus, is the only Way, Truth and Life and no one can go to God except through Jesus. The Jews in Auschwitz died in general without the Sacraments given to us by the Jewish Messiah the continuation of the Jewish tradition.

The dogma which Pope Pius XII approved did not say that only informed Jews at Auschwitz were oriented to Hell. It did not say that only Jews who knew about the Catholic Church and were educated were oriented to Hell .It does include those Jews who are informed about the Catholic Church.

The dogma does not say that those in invincible ignorance can be saved at Auschwitz. It leaves this judgment to God.

The dogma does not say that those with a good conscience at Auschwitz are saved .De facto we do not know who has a good conscience. Only Jesus will judge.

The dogma said all Jews with no exception in Auschwitz and elsewhere de facto had to enter the Catholic Church to go to Heaven and avoid Hell.

The Jewish prophet Isaiah described Hell as a place with a devouring fire and asked who could stand such a fire for all time. It’s a place where you cannot sleep, eat or love God. Its incomparably worse than Auschwitz.

The dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus is based on Jesus’ repeated teaching in the Bible to all Jews and Gentiles- he cautioned them that they need to convert and enter the new Church (John 3:5) for salvation.

POPE PIUS XII STATED ALL JEWS IN BOSTON NEED TO ENTER THE CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR SALVATION

Pope Pius XII, Vicar of Christ and Servant of God now eligible for beatification stated that all Jews in Boston with no exception need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation. He is the Holy Father who approved the Letter of the Holy Office, Vatican 1949 to the Archbishop of Boston Cardinal Richard Cushing, which affirmed ‘the dogma’ and the ‘infallible teaching’.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma.

No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.)
-from the website Catholicism.org and “No Salvation outside the Church”: Link List ,
The Three Dogmatic Statements Regarding EENS)
Jewish Left media states that Vatican Council II was revolutionary since it indicated that those in invincible ignorance, a good conscience or the baptism of desire can also be saved and so it was an exception to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. These were exceptions to the ordinary means of salvation i.e the baptism of water and Catholic Faith. This is false. Since these exceptions are also mentioned in the Letter of the Holy Office 1949, years before Vatican Council II. It is there in also the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas and the Church Fathers. So Vatican Council II was not the first time that they were mentioned.

The Letter indicated that all Jews in Boston de facto needed to enter the Catholic Church for salvation. They needed to convert to be saved. De jure there could be exceptions to the ordinary means of salvation which only Jesus could judge. If there were exceptions it would be known only to God. De facto we cannot judge. So the dogma is clear: de facto every Jew in Boston needs to enter the Church. This was the message of Pope Pius XII.

POPE BENEDICT XVI DEBUNKS JEWISH LEFT CLAIM THAT POPE PIUS XII WAS FALLIBLE ON EXTRA ECCLESIAM NULLA SALUS

Jewish Left organizations and media have claimed that Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy by Pope Pius XII, since the American priest at Boston taught everybody de facto needs to enter the Catholic Church for salvation and there were no exceptions. Yet this is the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. It would mean Pius XII contradicted the dogma according to the Jewish Left and so was fallible. Or the popes who affirmed the dogma were fallible on a faith-issue.

Over the years there has been no apology or clarification from the Jewish Left for this factual error repeated by them.

Pope Benedict XVI has corrected them when he proclaimed on Dec.19, 2009 Pope Pius XII was eligible for beatification.

In the Holy Office, Vatican Letter to the Archbishop of Boston in 1949 the Church affirmed ‘the dogma’, the ‘infallible teaching’.

Outside the Church there is no Salvation
• “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.” (Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215.)

• “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Pope Boniface VIII, the Bull Unam Sanctam, 1302.)

So when Jewish Left organizations like the Christian Jewish Center for Learning Boston College state that Fr.Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy it is a lie.It is a lie repeated often even after being informed.

ANDREA RICCARDI-WHY IS HE GIVEN THE EUCHARIST IN ROME?

Last Friday morning I saw Maria receive the Eucharist at a funeral Mass in Rome. She is an active old-member of the San Egidio Community (SEC) in Rome. I saw her after a few years. I once told her in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Rome that the SEC does not follow the teachings of the Catholic Church. They are in sin and yet receive the Eucharist.

Through Cecilia- a volunteer friend of Maria and member of the SEC I had been trying to ask the founder of SEC Andrea Riccardi to answer basic questions. He would not. Neither would the SEC Deacons.

Try and imagine Andrea Riccardi saying-the Catholic Church teaches and so I also proclaim that de facto, all persons with no exceptions need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation.

The Jewish Left and their supporters would stop his money-supply.

He would have to stop the three- days- a -week food San Egidio gives the poor.

His annual world conference of Christian religious and Catholic Bishops in dissent (all expenses paid by San Egidio) would end.

How do Andrea Riccardi, the San Egidio Deacons and volunteers like Maria and Cecilia receive the Eucharist?

According to Cecilia, she knows what the teachings of the Catholic Church are and does not believe in them. The Church needs to change according to her.

Neither does Andrea Riccardi consider the teachings of the Church as sacred-but open to change, like something you buy and sell.

He has never affirmed the dogma extra ecclsiam nulla salus nor Vatican Council II, Ad Gentes 7 - instead he has taught otherwise.

I once participated in one of their peace walks from Santa Maria in Trastevere to the nearby Jewish Ghetto. Just before the walk began I met an African seminarian friend from Maria Mater Ecclesia, the Legionaries of Christ seminary in Rome. He was also known to a Deacon of the San Egidio community who came up to us. The Italian Deacon said to the seminarian seriously and sardonically aloud, “What are you doing talking to him?”, “Why are you with him?” The seminarian smiled. The walk in the name of tolerance, peace etc had begun.

At the end of the walk, Andréa Riccardi on the microphone asked the Jewish Rabbi to say a prayer. He obliged. I waited but there was no Christian prayer.

It was at Santa Maria in Trastevere that I first began distributing leaflets quoting Dominus Iesus and the CDF Notification on Fr. Jacques Dupuis S.J. I could see the reaction of the SEC members. It was sad. These highly tolerant and peaceful Catholics were probably afraid they would lose their precious careers and lifestyles. There is a dislike of the Catholic Church among the San Egidio community members in Rome.

The Church has also been criticized at the conference for Christian religious. I was present at one of them when Bishop Paglia was officiating. Andréa Riccardi has also criticized the Church in public asking the Vatican to listen to popular dissent and heresy and oblige. (Avvenire).

Andrea Riccardi accompanied the Italian Jewish Left Rabbis to the Urbaniana Pontifical University, Rome and at a programme organised by the B’nai Birth. The Urbaniana was warned that Catholic Mission in its traditional form must end. Or the University could be hit by hate laws (anti Semitism, racist laws) placed in Italy by the Jewish Left minority (ADL etc) for the Catholic majority population.

Now on Dec.27,2009 the Holy Father will be present at a Christmas lunch for the poor organised by the Sant Egidio community within the Basilica Santa Maria in Trastevere. Did their Jewish Left friends make the phone call inviting the pope? How can San Egidio support Rabbis who are in favour of abortion and yet also campaign for an end to the death penalty??

How can the San Egidio community Deacons conduct prayers and a healing service at the Church of San Francesco Saveiro in Garbatella, Rome, when they cannot affirm an ex cathedra dogma and the Council (Ad Gentes 7) regarding Jews and non Catholics needing to convert for salvation? This is contrary to the Creed.

Why is Andrea Riccardi given the Eucharist in Rome?

URBANIANA PONTIFICAL UNIVERSITY ROME GIVES UP EX CATHEDRA DOGMA ON MISSION: MAKES HISTORY

Urbaniana University, the Catholic Pontifical University in Rome which focuses on Mission has accepted the Jewish Left instructions and recognized the threat- they have officially and publicly given up the Catholic ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. This was evident in the Edinburgh 2010 conference they organised this month at the Urbaniana which was also addressed by the Rector of the Urbaniana University Father Cataldo Zuccaro.

The Conference made important theological changes in Catholic teaching.

It recognized that the centre of Catholic Mission must be Jesus and must exclude the Church. This means  Christians who believe in Jesus are saved in general and do not have to enter the Catholic Church, Jesus’ Mystical Body for salvation. This would include the Jehowahs Witnesses who claim Jesus and St.Michael the Archangel are the same and that the Godhead has not Three Pesons but Two.

Two thousand  years of teaching were put aside which said that de facto everyone with no exception needs to enter the Catholic Church for salvation.

Secondly the conference had Cardinal Walter Kaspar a member of the Vatican Curia as a speaker. The cardinal in a front page article in the L'Osservatore Romano indicated that Vatican Council II (Lumen Gentium 16, 20) referred to the ordinary way of salvation and were not the exceptions to the ordinary way of salvation, which is the baptism of water and Catholic Faith. So Jews and other non Christians are saved in general in their religions and do not have to convert.

SANDRA MAZZOLINI ECCLESIOLOGY PROF.URBANIANA UNIVERSITY REJECTS CATHOLIC DOGMA AND VATICAN COUNCIL II : EDINBURGH 2010

SANDRA MAZZOLINI,PROFESSOR OF ECCLESIOLOGY AT URBANIANA UNIVERSITY REJECTS CATHOLIC DOGMA AND VATICAN COUNCIL: EDINBURGH 2010 CONF.

A professor of ecclesiology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome has written a book in Italian which refutes the Catholic dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. Her ‘research’ of the Church Fathers indicates that extra ecclesiam nulla salus does not mean everyone needs to enter the Catholic Church. Prof. Sandra Mazzolini, was a key speaker at the Urbaniana University Conference thiis month to celebrate the centenary next year of the Edinburgh 2010 meeting on Mission.

According to the daily Avvenire (Dec.4,2009) she mentioned Vatican Council II and its openness to the ecumenical path and a missionary style in dialogue with the world and the culture of peoples.

Mazzolini was contradicting an ex cathedra teaching of the Catholic Church on extra ecclesiam nulla salus and made no mention of Vatican Council II indicating that educated participants at ecumenical meetings are oriented to Hell unless they convert.

Sandra Mazzolini is the author of the book Chiesa e salvezza.L’extra Ecclesiam nulla salus in epoca patristica (Urbaniana University Press,Rome 2008).

14. This Sacred Council wishes to turn its attention firstly to the Catholic faithful. Basing itself upon Sacred Scripture and Tradition, it teaches that the Church, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary for salvation. Christ, present to us in His Body, which is the Church, is the one Mediator and the unique way of salvation. In explicit terms He Himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism(124) and thereby affirmed also the necessity of the Church, for through baptism as through a door men enter the Church. Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic Church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved…-Lumen Gentium 14,Vatican Council II. Emphasis added)

Here are the ex cathedra dogmatic teachings that
she refutes. It is a first class heresy for a Catholic.

Outside the Church there is no Salvation

“Outside the Church there is no salvation” is a doctrine of the Catholic Faith that was taught By Jesus Christ to His Apostles, preached by the Fathers, defined by popes and councils and piously believed by the faithful in every age of the Church. Here is how the Popes defined it:

No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.)  -from the website Catholicism.org
Mazzolini, an Italian, since  May 2004 has been an associate professor in the Faculty of Missiology at the Pontifical University Urbaniana. Her bio data does not say if she is a Catholic.

EDINBURGH 2010 IS CONTRARY TO VATICAN COUNCIL II

The recent meeting to celebrate the Centenary of the World Missionary Conference, held in Edinburgh 1910, in which Cardinal Kaspar and others participated was contrary to Vatican Council II and Catholic dogmatic teaching on Mission. According to Vatican Council II all the educated and informed  Christian participants at this ecumenical meeting are oriented to eternal fires of Hell unless they convert and enter the Catholic Church immediately(Lumen Gentium 14).

A report in the Italian daily Avvenire, Ecumenismo,da 100 anni una “missione” viva by Fabrizio Mastrofini p.17, states Cardinal Walter Kaspar, President of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity  was one of the speakers on the last day of the conference organised by the Urbaniana University, Faculty of Missiology. It was a meeting of Protestants and Catholics to jointly celebrate the centenary of the Edinburgh conference in 1910 when mainland Protestant communities focused on Christian Mission.

According to Ermano Genre,a Valdese community teacher, the reports says, the purpose of this ecumenical meeting at the Urbaniana was not to reach a theological agreement but to elaborate the road in community and fraternity for proclaiming the Gospel.

It may be mentioned that according to the Gospel as proclaimed by the Catholic Church , Ermano Genre needs to convert .Since the ordinary way to avoid Hell is Catholic Faith with the baptism of water. Lumen Gentium 14 states:

MILINGO

There is a Reuters report about Philip Pullella Vatican defrocks exorcist archbishop who married, which says Milingo lived in a secluded convent. This is not true.

He was living in a large villa in Zagarollo on the outskirts of Rome. There were two priests from the Focolare Movement who were also  living there with him. Also Madre Rosaria, the Superior of a Catholic religious community of men and women. There were a few members of this community who were also living there.

When I had to leave the Beda College in 2003 I lived with them for three months since I knew Madre Rosaria in Medugorje and had kept in contact with her.

It was always my wish to be close to her community and God granted it.

I would eat at the table with them and take part in their prayers often. From Zagarallo I would go by train to the Regina Apostolorum University of the Legionaries of Christ, where I was studying philosophy.

When I first went to Zagarolo it was a surprise to find  Mons. Emmanuel Milingo was staying there. I had read the newspaper reports about him.

At Zagarolo, the Vatican had permitted him to celebrate Holy Mass. He would also have his healing services there. He could travel freely all over the world.

He had written many books about his ministry and so was well known. People from all over Italy would bring relatives whom they thought were possessed to be healed by the Archbishop.

I think most or all of them were disappointed. I never knew anyone who was healed by the Archbishop.

MONSIGNOR WHO SAID ISLAM NOT A PATH TO SALVATION APPOINTED BISHOP OF FRASCATI, ITALY

Mons. Raffaello Martinelli has been appointed Bishop of Frascati, Italy. In an interview he had mentioned that Islam is not a path to salvation and that Muslims needed to enter the Catholic Church to avoid Hell.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9L5202FYCMs  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCyWwQSHatc )

In his book on apologetics, Argomenti d?Attualità in forma dialogica,Frammenti di Verità Cattolica. Come la Chiesa considera le religioni non –cristiane? P.54 (2006) he indicates that Muslims need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation according to the teachings of the Church.

Raffaello Martinelli (born June 21, 1948) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was born in Villa d'Almè, and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Bergamo on April 8, 1972. He served as bureau chief at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

On July 2, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Frascati by Pope Benedict XVI.He received his episcopal consecration on the following September 12 from Benedict XVI, with Cardinals Tarcisio Bertone and William Levada serving as co-consecrators, at St. Peter's Basilica- Wikipidia

MORE CATHOLIC ORGANISATIONS AND RELIGIOUS ARE SAYING POPE PIUS XII WAS FALLIBLE

EWTN insists Pope Pius XII was fallible.

So do priests of the Legionaries of Christ, one of them my former Spiritual Director, Fr. Andrez Martinez L.C. This was when I was a seminarian for a month (2002) at the Pontifical International Maria Mater Ecclesia College, the seminary of the Legionaries of the Christ in Rome. This was also the teaching of the Rector of another seminary, the Pontifical Beda College, Mons. Roderick Strange. (2002-2003).Mons. Strange is still the Rector of the Beda, the seminary for late vocations under the bishops of England and Wales.

They insist that Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy.

He was excommunicated for teaching that de facto all people with no exceptions, needed to enter the Catholic Church to go to Heaven and avoid Hell.

This is also the ex-cathedra teaching of three Councils and popes. So it means that Pope Pius XII contradicted the ex cathedra teaching on extra ecclesiam nulla salus. So he was fallible on a faith issue. Since both he and the other popes cannot be correct. Either de facto everybody needs to enter the Catholic Church Jesus’ Mystical Body for salvation or everybody does not have to de facto enter e.g. those in invincible ignorance and with a good conscience.

The Vatican has never issued a clarification on the Boston Case and the political position of the Jewish Left media is that the Church has changed its position on the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. This is also the view of The National Catholic Reporter and The Tablet, their sister organisations.

Apologist Patrick Madrid also states that Fr. Leonard Feeney was excommunicated for heresy.

May be he innocently holds this view but he has not corrected it in comments made recently and in questions asked of him on this blog.

PATRICK MADRID is the publisher of Envoy Magazine, a journal of contemporary Catholic thought, and he is director of the Envoy Institute of Belmont Abbey College. Since its inception in 1996, the Envoy team has garnered numerous journalism awards, including several first-place awards in the magazine-of-the-year “General Excellence” category from the Catholic Press Association.

Patrick is the author or editor of 14 books and booklets on Catholic themes including, Pope Fiction, Search and Rescue, Does the Bible Really Say That?, and 150 Bible Verses Every Catholic Should Know. He edited and co-authored the acclaimed multi-volume Surprised by Truth series (over 500,000 combined copies in print in English and Spanish).-from the website of Patrick Madrid

It may be mentioned that the Letter of the Holy Office 1949 to the archbishop of Boston, Cardinal Richard Cushing did not specifically condemn Fr. Leonard Feeney for heresy. It affirmed the dogma and so supported Fr. Leonard Feeney’s so called ‘rigorist position’.

The first part of the Letter referred to the dogma and the second part to the disobedience of Fr. Leonard Feeney and the St. Benedict’s Center to the Archbishop of Boston. Fr. Feeney was excommunicated for ‘disobedience’.

The excommunication was lifted without the priest having to recant.

Meanwhile the Archbishop of Boston was never excommunicated and neither the Jesuits of Boston College, for not affirming the dogma publicly.
