The Boston bishops who had to tell a lie on Vatican Council II could no more tell the truth i.e that there are only Catholics in Heaven and this is the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church. They had to pretend that outside the Church there is salvation. This is how they had to interpret Vatican Council II- with a false premise. So from outside the Church there is no salvation, the Church now teaches with the New Theology, outside the Church there is salvation.
