The Mysterious Meaning of Jesus’ Rays in the Divine Mercy Image, As Revealed by Our Lord
There is a beautiful meaning behind the two rays coming from Jesus’ chest in the Divine Mercy image.
St. Faustina wrote Jesus’ words in her diary, Divine Mercy in My Soul, after asking Him the meaning. Before we discuss the meaning, take a look at the full image.
Here’s the full Divine Mercy Image:
The image above depicts two rays coming from Jesus’ chest: one pale ray and one red ray. But what does this mean?
St. Faustina’s confessor, Blessed Fr. Michał Sopocko, requested that she ask Jesus for an explanation of these rays.
Here’s what Jesus said:
“The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls.
“These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross.
“These rays shield souls from the wrath of My Father. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him. I desire the first Sunday after Easter be the Feast of Mercy.
“Ask of my faithful servant [Father Sopocko] that, on this day, he tell the whole world of My great mercy; that whoever approaches the Fount of Life on this day will be granted complete remission of sins and punishment.
“Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy.
“Oh, how much I am hurt by a soul’s distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness. My Heart rejoices in this title of Mercy.
“Proclaim that mercy is the greatest attribute of God. All the works of My hands are crowned with mercy.”

The Feast of Mercy.
The last Day of the Easter Octave - the Feast of Mercy - it is as if Christ calls out: Come to me, all of you, no matter who you are, where you are, what you are doing - no matter how far away.
Jesus told St. Faustina:
The last Day of the Easter Octave - the Feast of Mercy - it is as if Christ calls out: Come to me, all of you, no matter who you are, where you are, what you are doing - no matter how far away.
Jesus told St. Faustina:
"I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners."He seeks us first, even though it seems like we seek him first, especially in times of trouble, danger, sadness and grief. As soon as we call, as soon as we pray - he hears us. He catches us when we fall and restores us to life in Him. We have proof of that in Minnesota!
In my experience, the devotion to Divine Mercy has been like my foot in the door of salvation. Christ's invitation is really a 'come as you are' invite. "Come to me, all you who are heavily burdened and weighed down ..." He came to call sinners - those who are well do not need a doctor - those most in need of mercy do.
On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. - Jesus to FaustinaYet, even without these requirements, our Lord's invitation to those most in need of mercy stands out in a singularly unique manner on the Feast of Mercy. We can never measure or limit the extent and depth of his mercy. He told St. Faustina to go throughout the world, extending his invitation to come to him, to come to his image, depicted for her, and revealed for us, as the Divine Mercy, signed with the prayer, "Jesus I trust in you!" He promised unimaginable graces to those who turn to him:
"My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity."
I'm convinced He has many ways of grasping us and attracting us to his merciful love. When we trust him, and express that trust in prayer, no matter who we are or where we are at, he comes to us and can enter through any door, locked or unlocked. Time after time.
His Mercy endures forever!
What is Divine Mercy Sunday?
Among all of the elements of devotion to The Divine Mercy requested by our Lord through St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Feast of Mercy holds first place. The Lord's will with regard to its establishment was already made known in His first revelation to the saint, as recorded in her Diary. In all, there were 14 revelations concerning the desired feast.
Our Lord's explicit desire is that this feast be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. This Sunday is designated in "The Liturgy of the Hours and the Celebration of the Eucharist" as the "Octave Day of Easter." It was officially called the Second Sunday of Easter after the liturgical reform of Vatican II. Now, by the Decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the name of this liturgical day has been changed to: "Second Sunday of Easter, or Divine Mercy Sunday." http://thedivinemercy.org/mercysunday/dms.php
Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary 300)I want the image solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it. (Diary 341)This Feast emerged from the very depths of My mercy, and it is confirmed in the vast depths of my tender mercies. (Diary 420)On one occasion, I heard these words: My daughter, tell the whole world about My Inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.* [our emphasis] On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699)Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to our neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to absolve yourself from it. (Diary 742)I want to grant complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy. (Diary 1109)
As you can see the Lord's desire for the Feast includes the solemn, public veneration of the Image of Divine Mercy by the Church, as well as personal acts of veneration and mercy. The great promise for the individual soul is that a devotional act of sacramental penance and Communion will obtain for that soul the plenitude of the divine mercy on the Feast.
*The Cardinal of Krakow, Cardinal Macharski, whose diocese is the center of the spread of the devotion and the sponsor of the Cause of Sr. Faustina, has written that we should use Lent as preparation for the Feast and confess even before Holy Week! So, it is clear that the confessional requirement does not have to be met on the Feast itself. That would be an impossible burden for the clergy if it did. The Communion requirement is easily met that day, however, since it is a day of obligation, being Sunday. We would only need confession again, if received earlier in Lenten or Easter Season, if we were in the state of mortal sin on the Feast.

April 12,2015: Divine Mercy Sunday
When I entered the chapel for a moment, the Lord said to me. My daughter, help Me to save a certain dying sinner.Say the chaplet that I have taught you for him. When I began to say the chaplet, I saw the man dying in the midst of terrible torment and struggle. His Guardian Angel was defending him, but he was, as it were,powerless against the enormity of the soul's misery. A multitude of devils was waiting for the soul. But while I was saying the chaplet, I saw Jesus just as He is depicted in the image.The rays which issued from Jesus' Heart enveloped the sick man, and the powers of darkness fled in panic.The sick man peacefully breathed his last. When I came to myself, I understod how very important the chaplet was for the dying. It appeases the anger of God.

Divine Mercy Sunday
In the Diary of St.Faustina Kowalski Jesus refers to 'heretics and schismatics' the very words of the dogma on extra ecclesiam nulla salus defined in Cantate Domino, Council of Florence 1441.Cantate Domino refers to Protestants and Orthodox Christians as 'heretics and schismatice'.
Liberals do not like the words 'heretics and schismatics'. The political Left media acts as if Ad Gentes 7 does not exist. Ad Gentes 7 says all need faith and baptism for salvation.Protestants and Orthodox Christians do not have Catholic Faith.They are not in unity with the Church. They do not formally belong to the Church. If there is any Protestant or Orthodox Christian saved, it would be known to God.There could exist a case as a possibility. In general they need to enter the Catholic Church and follow the teachings of the Catholic Church to avoid Hell.
During the Fifth Day of the Novena leading to Divine Mercy Sunday Catholics prayed for those heretics and schismatics who have abused the graces and all the good things God has offered them and who have continued obstinately in their errors.
Divine Mercy Sunday today carries a plenary and partial indulgence under the usual conditions for those to whom it is applied.There was a large number of people at the Divine Mercy Church in Rome for the 3 0'clock prayer.The chaplet was prayed in different languages.-Lionel Andrades
Visions of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven according to St. Faustina
The following passages are taken from the Diary of St. Faustina and they refer to her visions of Hell, Purgatory and Heaven.
Hell"...I saw two roads. One was broad, covered with sand and flowers, full of joy, music and all sorts of pleasures. People walked along it, dancing and enjoying themselves. They reached the end without realizing it. And at the end of the road there was a horrible precipice; that is, the abyss of hell. The souls fell blindly into it; as they walked, so they fell. And their number was so great that it was impossible to count them. And I saw the other road, or rather, a path, for it was narrow and strewn with thorns and rocks; and the people who walked along it had tears in their eyes, and all kinds of suffering befell them. Some fell down upon the rocks, but stood up immediately and went on. At the end of the road there was a magnificent garden filled with all sorts of happiness and all these souls entered there. At the very first instant they forgot all their sufferings" (Diary 153).
" Today, I was led by an Angel to the chasms of hell. It is a place of great torture; how awesomely large and extensive it is! The kinds of tortures I saw: the first torture that constitutes hell is the loss of God; the second is perpetual remorse of conscience; the third is that one’s condition will never change; the fourth is the fire that will penetrate the soul without destroying it, a terrible suffering, since it is a purely spiritual fire, lit by God’s anger; the fifth torture is conditional darkness and a terrible suffocating smell, and despite the darkness, the devils and the souls of the damned see each other and all the evil, both of others and their own; the sixth torture is the constant company of satan, the seventh torture is horrible despair, hatred of God, vile words, curses and blasphemies. These are the tortures suffered by all the damned together, but that is not the end of the sufferings. There are special tortures destined for particular souls. These are the torments of the senses. Each soul undergoes terrible and indescribable sufferings, related to the manner in which it has sinned. There are caverns and pits of torture where one form of agony differs from another. I would have died at the very sight of these tortures if the omnipotence of God had not supported me. Let the sinner know that he will be tortured throughout all eternity, in those senses which he made use of to sin. I am writing this at the command of God, so that no soul may find an excuse by saying there is no hell, or that nobody has ever been there, and so no one can say what it is like. I, sister Faustina, by the order of God, have visited the abysses of hell so that I might tell souls about it and testify to its existence. I cannot speak about it now; but I have received a command from God to leave it in writing. The devils were full of hatred for me, but they had to obey me at the command of God. What I have written is but a pale shadow of the things I saw. But I noticed one thing: that most of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there is a hell. When I came to, I could hardly recover from the fright. How terribly souls suffer there! Consequently, I pray even more fervently for the conversion of sinners. I incessantly plead God’s mercy upon them. O my Jesus, I would rather be in agony until the end of the world, amidst the greatest sufferings, then offend You by the least sin. (Diary 741).

Purgatory
" ...I saw my Guardian Angel, who ordered me to follow him. In a moment I was in a misty place full of fire in which there was a great crowd of suffering souls. They were praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid. The flames, which were burning them, did not touch me at all. My Guardian Angel did not leave me for an instant. I asked these souls what their greatest suffering was. They answered me in one voice that their greatest torment was longing for God. I saw Our Lady visiting the souls in Purgatory. The souls call Her “The Star of the Sea”. She brings them refreshment. I wanted to talk with them some more, but my Guardian Angel beckoned me to leave. We went out of that prison of suffering. [I heard an interior voice which said] ‘My mercy does not want this, but justice demands it. Since that time, I am in closer communion with the suffering souls.’” (Diary, 20)
Heaven
" November 27, 1936. Today I was in heaven, in spirit, and I saw its unconceivable beauties and the happiness that awaits us after death. I saw how all creatures give ceaseless praise and glory to God. I saw how great is happiness in God, which spreads to all creatures, making them happy; and then all the glory and praise which springs from this happiness returns to its source; and they enter into the depths of God, contemplating the inner life of God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, whom they will never comprehend or fathom. This source of happiness is unchanging in its essence, but it is always new, gushing forth happiness for all creatures. Now I understand Saint Paul, who said, “Eye has not seen, nor has ear heard, not has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love him.” And God has given me to understand that there is but one thing that is of infinite value in His eyes, and that is love of God; love, love and once again, love; and nothing can compare with a single act of pure love of God. Oh, with what inconceivable favors God gifts a soul that loves Him sincerely! Oh, how happy is the soul who already here on earth enjoys His special favors! And of such are the little and humble souls. The sight of this great majesty of God, which I came to understand more profoundly and which is worshipped by the heavenly spirits according to their degree of grace and the hierarchies into which they are divided, did not cause my soul to be stricken with terror or fear; no, no, not at all! My soul was filled with peace and love, and the more I come to know the greatness of God, the more joyful I become that He is as He is. And I rejoice immensely in His greatness and am delighted that I am so little because, since I am little, He carries me in His arms and holds me close to His Heart. O my God, how I pity those people who do not believe in eternal life; how I pray for them that a ray of mercy would envelop them too, and that God would clasp them to His fatherly bosom... "

SISTER FAUSTINA KOWALSKA WAS THE APOSTLE OF DIVINE MERCY BUT SHE DID NOT DENY HELL. SHE PERSONALLY SAW IT AND DESCRIBED IT- -Traditional Latin Mass homily today
During the homily of the Traditional Latin Mass in Rome today the priest briefly spoke about today being Divine Mercy Sunday. He said that though Sr.Faustina Kowalski was the Apostle of Divine Mercy she did not deny Hell. She personally saw Hell and described it for us.
There was a sea of people today at St.Peter’s Square during the Angelus and Pope Benedict XVI greeted them especially and welcomed them. They had come to church of the Divne Mercy, Santo Spirito near St.Peters Square.Bus loads of pilgrims have come here for the feast day.
Yesterday during the last day of the novena they prayed for tepid souls who gave Jesus the most suffering during His Passion.The Litany included a prayer that souls may avoid the fires of Hell.In her Diary, the Apostle of Divine Mercy describes Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.
