Paul Lakeland has gone intro hibernation on Vatican Council II.Theology could now leave a sour taste in his mouth, when he teaches it at the University of Fairfield, Ohio.
An euphoria and liberalism on Vatican Council II, expressed as an author of a few books, has come to an unwelcome stop, now that he is informed that the Council is on the same wavelength on extra ecclesiam nulla salus, as Fr. Leonard Feeney of Boston.
This was unknown to him for most of his life and as a professor of ecclesiology. So what is he going to teach now ? Will he still have to teach that LG 8, LG 14, LG 16 etc are objective exceptions to the past exclusivist ecclesiology of the Church, when he knows that they cannot really be exceptions.
Will he teach his students that Unitatis Redintigratio, the Decree on Ecumenism in Vatican Council II, is a rupture with the past ecumenism of return, when he knows that there are no such cases mentioned in the entire text of the Decree on Ecumenism.
How does he tell the truth to his liberal students at the University?. How to be sincere and teach with integrity should be an issue for him today.

The National Catholic Reporter's reviews of the books by Fr. Jared Wicks sj and Prof. Paul Lakeland on Vatican Council II, were flawed.The authors had made a mistake. Vatican Council II was interpreted by them with false reasoning.The NCR must admit it. Both authors read the Council superficially.Then they assumed hypothetical cases were objective exceptions to the past ecclesiology of the Church. This is irrational. So the authors conclusions and those of the editors and correspondents of the NCR were irrational, non traditional and an artifical rupture with Catholic theology and doctrines on salvation etc.
