WE DO NOT KNOW ANY EXPLICIT CASE OF THE BAPTISM OF DESIRE OR OF A NON CATHOLIC BEING SAVED IN INVINCIBLE IGNORANCE- Rector, Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood, Church of Santa Maria in Trivio, Rome

We do not know any explicit case of a non Catholic saved with the baptism of desire or in invincible ignorance said the Rector of the Church where lies the body of St. Gaspar del Bufalo. The Rector said that the ordinary way of salvation is Catholic Faith and the baptism of water (LG 16, AG 7).

The new Rector of the Church Santa Maria in Trivio, Rome Fr. Shehroo, an Indian, confirmed that those saved with the baptism of desire or in invincible ignorance are known only to God. We accept the possibility of these exceptional cases but explicitly we do not know any such case.

He was speaking with me yesterday evening after Holy Mass at Santa Maria in Trivio, which is along side the Trevi Fountain (Fontana da Trevi) and has many tourist-visitors.

1. So if we do not know any explicit case of a non Catholic saved with the baptism of desire or invincible ignorance (LG 16) how can people claim that it contradicts Fr. Leonard Feeney, the popes and saints including St. Gaspar del Bufalo who founded the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood ? They taught every one needs to be a visible, formal, ‘card carrying’ member of the Catholic Church to avoid Hell?

2. If Lumen Gentium 14, Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II is the ordinary way of salvation how can it contradict the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus, Cantate Domino, Council of Florence which says everyone needs to convert into the Catholic Church to avoid Hell ?
