Switching the hermeneutic of continuity on or off in the Catholic Church

The theological liberalism of Pope Francis and Cardinal Ladaria was possible because they used a false premise to interpret the baptism of desire and invincible ignorance ( Letter of the Holy Office 1949) as did some of the Council Fathers at Vatican Council II(1965).But we can avoid this mistake today. In spite of their error Vatican Council II can be interpreted with LG 8, LG 14, LG 16, UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 etc, referring to only hypothetical, theoretical, speculative and non-objective cases in 2021.We look at LG 8, LG 14, and LG 16 etc, as thoughts in our mind. They are not concrete and known people in 2021.

So we have the same Vatican Council II before us but it is a Council which supports the traditional strict interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS).Since there are no more any exceptions of LG 8, LG 14, LG 16, UR 3, etc. By avoiding the False Premise, we change our perspective and the Council changes before our very eyes. We no more read the Council like Ratzinger and Fellay. We can choose the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition. With the premise we control the hermeneutic. We still have the same Vatican Council II before us. No changes are to be made. We simply look at the Council differently- and theology changes. This has nothing to do with Holy Mass in Latin or the vernacular.

Like a switch - we can turn the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition on or off.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider has pressed the button. He says there are no literal cases of the baptism of desire (LG 14). He has kept the switch on. Vatican Council II has a continuity with Tradition.

Pope Francis' New Theology keeps the switch off. Lumen Gentium 14 (baptism of desire) refers to known and visible non Catholics. He infers that invisible people are visible for him and are examples of salvation outside the Church. So he concludes that EENS and the Syllabus of Errors are obsolete. There is a cut off with the past.

For me Unitatis Redintigratio (imperfect communion with the Church) refers to only a hypothetical case. So UR (Decree on Ecumenism) nowhere contradicts the Syllabus of Errors and the dogma EENS. I have kept the line open with Tradition. Cardinal Walter Kasper's New Ecumenism is based upon UR 3 being an exception for the Syllabus and EENS. He has turned the switch off, breaking the connection with Sacred Tradition and the past exclusivist ecumenism. The premise was his handle.

Pope Benedict in the daily Avvenire said that EENS today was no more like it was for the missionaries in the 16th century, there was ' a development with Vatican Council II'. He means that there was the hermeneutic of rupture with Tradition and he wanted the SSPX and the whole Church to tag along. LG 16 etc, were exceptions for EENS and he called this ' a development'. The SSPX were in the dark - they could not plug in Vatican Council II to Tradition. Though they can do it today.

Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke criticizes Vatican Council II but still keeps the switch off. Dr. Taylor Marshall says that there are no explicit cases of St. Thomas Aquinas'implicit baptism of desire and keeps the light on.

But the truth is lost with the College of Cardinals, bishops conferences and national catechetical centers. It’s lights out. There is a major power outage in the Church. They are irrational. How can they be Magisterial on Vatican Council II?

Like them Traditionis Custode is a major interrupter. Lumen Gentium 14 (baptism of desire) is always invisible on earth. This is common sense. Pope Francis must correct the error.

The episcopal conferences and catechetical centers must get back to Tradition. They must be conservative like the Magisterium in the 12th to 16th century. It’s simple. They simply choose the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition. They opt to keep the switch on by choosing the Rational Premise and going back to the old theology.-Lionel Andrades
