Legion of Mary

On Tuesday and Wednesday I attended Mass at a chapel on the outskirts of Rome.It was raining and a windy evening. It was a long walk to reach there and I  was midway to my destination.

On Wednesday I was early for Mass so  I went to the Parish Office and asked the Manager when would the chapel open. He told me I had to wait a few minutes.I then asked him if they had a Legion of Mary group in this parish. For a long time I had been wanting to attend a meeting, again.I like the Legion of Mary.

He said there was a meeting of the Legion of Mary on at that very time!

I went and introduced myself. They were about to start their meeting.I joined them and we prayed  the rosary. There were the familiar opening prayers and the duties. They said the prayer in Italian which I often repeat to myself in English. Who is she that cometh forth fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army in battle array. O Mary conceived without sin pray for us.

It was pleasure seeing the statue of Our Lady on the little table, with shining new silver candlesticks, holding steady flames. It was all placed on a spotless white table cloth on which was embroidered in red Legio Mariae. The room was large and spotlessly clean and there I was in my wet coat, soggy shoes and crumpled clothes.

They had a young priest there as their Spiritual Director and it was also the first day for him.

The Legion of Mary's founder Frank Duff's spirituality and understanding of the Catholic Faith is still relevant today after Vatican Council II. Unless one is a liberal and interprets Vatican Council II with the false premise.

Otherwise Vatican Council II is traditional and is in sync with the Legion of Mary's handbook.

It is possible however that members of the Legion of Mary influenced by others, interpret Vatican Council as a break with Tradition. This is an issue the Legion of Mary Curia could discuss.

The emphasis of this group of six elderly women, was on visits. In some countries the Legion of Mary members are catechists and missionaries.
