Repost : Catholic Mission Office to the Jews and Gentiles in Rome

SEPTEMBER 29, 2009

CATHOLIC MISSION OFFICE TO THE JEWS AND GENTILES IN ROME

A pamphlet in Italian is available on the Internet.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjtBSRM5YgQ

Please edit it, adapt it and use it.

There is no office or telephone number available (with no intention of having an office in future) however Mission-work has continued here for the last seven years. Our Office is figuratively, in the catacombs.

We do not ask for donations nor submit an address for donations. The word office is part of the name.

WHAT I BELIEVE (SEVEN POINTS)

1) Does the Catholic Church teach that non-Catholic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam etc) are not paths to salvation (to go to Heaven and to avid Hell)? YES

2) Does the Catholic Church teach that Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water are needed for all people in general, except for the exceptions, those in invincible ignorance etc, for salvation? YES

3) When I meet a Mr. Harrisburg, a Jew in New Hampshire, I can tell him kindly that the Catholic Church teaches that he needs Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water to go to Heaven and avoid Hell? YES

4) If a Jew in Boston would ask me if the Catholic Church teaches that he needs Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water urgently to avoid Hell and go to Heaven would I answer yes? YES

5) When we say that a non-Catholic can be saved through the baptism of desire, we need to also say that this is the extraordinary way. Otherwise this would be indifferentism. It would suggest that non-Catholics can be saved implicitly and in general by Jesus and the Catholic Church, within their religions. It would suggest that they do not have to convert? YES

6) The Holy Office (1949) in a Letter to Cardinal Richard Cushing relative to Fr. Leonard Feeney said (like CCC 1257) that the Baptism of water is the general, ordinary means to eternal beatitude and the reference was to the baptism of water and not the baptism of desire, which we do not administer when we meet non-Catholics? YES.

7) In Inter religious dialogue it needs to be kept in mind that the Church is the ordinary means of salvation (Redemptoris Missio 55)? YES

ADDITIONAL POINTS FOR REFLECTION

1. Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II says that all people need to enter the Catholic for salvation. All people include Protestants.

2.Lumen Gentium 14 refers to the ordinary means of salvation for all people in general. Lumen Gentium 16 refers to those saved extraordinarily.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om0mrS_H4w4

3.When we meet a Protestant we cannot judge if he or she is in the extraordinary category. Only God knows we do not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZePY-LxSAgM

4. When we meet a Protestant we assume he needs Catholic Faith, not because we can judge personally but because the Church says so. This is the Church teaching in the past and in Vatican Council II.

5.Only the Catholic Church has been given the KEYS. It is the sole moral authority to explain objective truth. A Catholic may believe in Jesus and read the Bible daily (like a Protestant) and attend Mass but of he is mortal sin at the time of death he is oriented to Hell. So a Protestant may believe in Jesus but is in heresy if he is not in the Catholic Church. The Bible says not all those who say “Lord, Lord” will enter Heaven but those who do the will of God the Father. It is the will of God that all people worship Him in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is the only Ark of Noah that saves in the flood (CCC).

6.Pastorally, at the practical level when I met a Protestant, I know that all Protestants need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation. This is the teaching of the Church and not a personal view.

7. At the intellectual, theological level, I know that Protestants can be saved and those who are saved are known only to God. We can judge.

8. When speaking/writing on this subject it is important to clarify when one is referring to (1) the practical and theological level and the (2) extraordinary and ordinary means of salvation.

9.Jesus says “Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Good News, those who believe will be saved, those who do not will be condemned.” Jesus was speaking here about the ordinary means of salvation at the practical level.

10.If you ask a Catholic if a non Catholic can be saved and he answers “Yes”, he is referring always to the extraordinary means of salvation at the intellectual level.

11.If you do not say that all people; everyone, needs to enter the Catholic Church (practical level) it would contradict past Church Councils, teachings of the popes and the Bible. It would contradict Vatican Council II (Ad Gentes 7 Lunen Gentium 14).

12The sedevantists, Most Holy Family Monastery, USA, mix up the practical and intellectual level. They say that everyone needs to enter the Catholic Church for salvation. This is correct, at the practical level, the level of missionary outreach. They say that there are no exceptions (baptism of desire etc) otherwise it would contradict the earlier teaching i.e. all need to enter the Catholic Church at the practical level. They are correct here. However they do not acknowledge at the intellectual/ theological level that there can be exceptions known only to God. These exceptions do not contradict the Church’s teaching at the practical level, the level of evangelisation.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNiO7NWawCs

13.So Father Leonard Feeney was correct with his 'rigorist interpretation' at the practical level, the level of personal outreach to non-Catholics. He said that there are no exceptions (baptism of desire). There are no exceptions at the practical level which we can judge as exceptions. We do not know. We do not know specific cases. So he was correct.

In the book The Bread of Life, he asks who in America does not know that Jesus is the centre of the world’s salvation. He assumes that in America in general, people are informed; they know, through modern communication and education. So they have an obligation to enter the Catholic Church (Lumen Gentium 14) to avoid Hell. He was indirectly suggesting that there could be exceptions, those who do not know. The communities he founded, Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary acknowledge the exceptions (invisible ignorance etc) at the intellectual/theological level. Fr. Leonard Feeney was not excommunicated for heresy but for disobedience. He did not go to Rome to defend himself. The excommunication was lifted by the Catholic Church without him having to change his teaching on outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2q79EjCueQ

14.The Catholic Church at the practical level acknowledges that unknown to us, there can be people who are saved. John 3:5 refers to everyone needing the baptism of water in the Catholic Church. The good thief on the cross is the exception.

15. We cannot say that the baptism of desire is the ordinary way of salvation and the baptism of water is also the ordinary way of salvation. We cannot say that Lumen Gentium 14 and Lumen Gentium 16 are both the ordinary way of salvation. This would be contrary to the principle of non-contradiction taught to Catholic seminarians in Philosophy.

Comments, questions, clarifications are welcome.

Repost : Church Not Retracted Outside the Church no Salvation -Christ to the World ,published by the Franciscans of the Immaculate

CHURCH NOT RETRACTED OUTSIDE THE CHURCH NO SALVATION

CHURCH NOT RETRACTED OUTSIDE THE CHURCH NO SALVATION
Christo al Mondo (Christ to the world) the journal in the Propaganda Fide Building, Rome in its May-June 1999 English edition has a report, ‘ Church has not Retracted Extra ecclesia nulla salus’.(It is published by the Franciscans of the Immaculate founded by Father Stefano Manelli s.i))
The teaching outside the Church there is no salvation’ has not been retracted it states and that Pope John Paul II defended and explained this teaching in a General Audience of May 31,1995, reported in the English Edition of the Vatican journal L’Osservatore Romano June 7,1995.
The report in Christ to the World further states that ‘Earlier in a General Audience of May 23,1979, he brought out the real damnation of many who could be greatly assisted (and saved) through God’s use of zealous missionaries. It was then that he quoted with obvious approval St.Francis Xavier’s statement: It often comes to mind to run and shout here and there in the academies of Europe and to address those who show more scholarship than charity, with the words, “Oh, how great is the number of souls excluded from heaven through your fault!”that is, through the fault of those who, having a call from God to become missionaries, neglect that call.”

Repost : Rabbis who met with Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco oriented to Hell indicates Vatican Council II

OCTOBER 4, 2009

RABBIS WHO MET WITH CARDINAL ANGELO BAGNASCO ORIENTED TO HELL INDICATES VATICAN COUNCIL II

Vatican Council II teaches those who know about Jesus and the Catholic Church, those who are informed and who yet do not enter the Catholic Church are oriented to Hell .(Lumen Gentium 14, Ad Gentes 7).

The Rabbis who met Cardinal Bagnasco on Sept.22 are educated .They are informed. They know.

‘…the Church, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary for salvation. Christ, present to us in His Body, which is the Church, is the one Mediator and the unique way of salvation. In explicit terms He Himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism(124) and thereby affirmed also the necessity of the Church, for through baptism as through a door men enter the Church. Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic Church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved…’-Lumen Gentium 14, Vatican Council II (Emphasis added

‘…Therefore, all must be converted to Him, made known by the Church's preaching, and all must be incorporated into Him by baptism and into the Church which is His body. For Christ Himself "by stressing in express language the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mark 16:16; John 3:5), at the same time confirmed the necessity of the Church, into which men enter by baptism, as by a door. Therefore those men cannot be saved, who though aware that God, through Jesus Christ founded the Church as something necessary, still do not wish to enter into it, or to persevere in it."…’-Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II (Emphasis added
The two Rabbis are oriented to the place personally seen by St.Teresa of Avila .

"A long time after the Lord had already granted me many of the favors I've mentioned and other very lofty ones, while I was in prayer one day, I suddenly found that, without knowing how, I had seemingly been put in hell. I understood that the Lord wanted me to see the place the devils had prepared there for me and which I merited because of my sins. This experience took place within the shortest space of time, but even were I to live for many years I think it would be impossible for me to forget it. The entrance it seems to me was similar to a very long and narrow alleyway, like an oven, low and dark and confined; the floor seemed to me to consist of dirty, muddy water emitting foul stench and swarming with putrid vermin. At the end of the alleyway a hole that looked like a small cupboard was hollowed out in the wall; there I found I was placed in a cramped condition. All of this was delightful to see in comparison with what I felt there. What I have described can hardly be exaggerated.

"What I felt, it seems to me, cannot even begin to be exaggerated; nor can it be understood. I experienced a fire in the soul that I don't know how I could describe. The bodily pains were so unbearable that though I had suffered excruciating ones in this life and according to what doctors say, the worst that can be suffered on earth for all my nerves were shrunken when I was paralyzed, plus many other sufferings of many kinds that I endured and even some as I said, caused by the devil, these were all nothing in comparison with the ones I experienced there. I saw furthermore that they would go on without end and without ever ceasing. This, however, was nothing next to the soul's agonizing: a constriction, a suffocation, an affliction so keenly felt and with such a despairing and tormenting unhappiness that I don't know how to word it strongly enough. To say the experience is as though the soul were continually being wrested from the body would be insufficient, for it would make you think somebody else is taking away the life, whereas here it is the soul itself that tears itself in pieces. The fact is that I don't know how to give a sufficiently powerful description of that interior fire and that despair, coming in addition to such extreme torments and pains. I didn't see who inflicted them on me, but, as it seemed to me, I felt myself burning and crumbling; and I repeat the worst was that interior fire and despair.

"Being in such an unwholesome place, so unable to hope for any consolation, I found it impossible either to sit down or to lie down, nor was there any room, even though they put me in this kind of hole made in the wall. Those walls, which were terrifying to see, closed in on themselves and suffocated everything. There was no light, but all was enveloped in the blackest darkness. I don't understand how this could be, that everything painful to see was visible."

Repost : Catholic News Blackout on Bagnasco-Rabbis sell out

OCTOBER 1, 2009

CATHOLIC NEWS BLACK OUT CONTINUES ON BAGNASCO-RABBIS SELL OUT

The news black out continues among Catholics on Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco’s deal with pro homosexuality Rabbis while the Holy Father was in Prague.

Zenit news has reported the event without saying that the President of the Catholic Conference of Italy(CEI) issued a communiqué saying there will be no active attempts to convert Jews.

The communiqué has not been made available even on the website of the CEI however Avvenire , the daily of the CEI reported it prominently.(See earlier posts on the blog eucharistandmission for details).

Cardinal Bagnasco met with Rabbis Segno and Rabbi Laras, both representing the Jewish Left and the homosexuality lobby.

Rabbi Lara is the head of the Rabbinical Assembly, Milan which claims it represents Conservative Jews.

However there is no one central authority among the Jews.Conservative and Orthodox Jews oppose homosexuality and the Jewish Left.

There is no intention to convert Jews says President of Italian Conference of Catholic Bishops

Italian Bishops Conference communiqué

There is no intention to convert Jews

There is no intention to actively try to convert Jews said Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the Italian Catholic Bishops Conference (CEI). In a communiqué issued after his meeting with Jewish- Left Rabbis the CEI daily Avvenire reported (23.09.2009).

The Rabbis who had ended ‘dialogue’ with the Vatican after the Revised Good Friday Prayer for the conversion of the Jews announced relations are now normal after the CEI communiqué on the change in Church policy towards the conversion of the Jews.

There will be the Jewish-Catholic day of Reflection in January 2010 said Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, on Sept.23 after a meeting with Rabbi Giuseppe Laras, president of the Italian Rabbinic Assembly, and Ricardo Di Segni, chief rabbi of Rome.

Cardinal Bagnasco said that there was no change in the attitude that the Catholic Church has developed toward the Jews, especially since Vatican Council II."

The Avvenire report is available on the internet (' Gironata ebraico-cristiana riprende la celebrazione commune Bagnasco ai rabbinic Laras e Di Segni : diamo nuovo slancio al dialogo di Lorenzo Rosoli p.8,Chiesa).

Rabbi Segni according to Avvenire has called for vigilance against any signs of anti Semitism and a rejection of Vatican Council II, especially Nostra Aetate.

Their meeting was also attended by Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the CEI Commission for Ecumenism and Inter Religious Dialogue.

The report said that Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State had clearly expressed the sentiments of the Holy Father to the Rabbinate of Israel after the Revised Prayer for the Conversion of the Jews was announced.

After the CEI communiqué emphasized that there was no intention to actively convert Jews the Rabbinical Assembly decided to normalize relations which were broken in 2007. It was also noted that the prayer referred to the conversion of the Jews in the eschatological time in the future and not now.

Repost : Cardinal Bagnasco denies Jesus and the Church

SEPTEMBER 28, 2009

CARDINAL BAGNASCO DENIES JESUS AND THE CHURCH

BAGNASCO DENIES JESUS AND THE CHURCH

Accepts Jewish concept of history

Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the Italian Conference of Catholic Bishops (Cei) is selling a new doctrine in the Catholic Church.Avvenire reported (23.0.2009) that the Italian Conference of Catholic Bishops has decided to accept Vatican Council II as the Jewish Left interprets it and to give up active efforts for the conversion of Jews. The Cardinal gives in to a long campaign by the Jewish Left lobby in Italy. They wanted Catholics to accept that Jews are saved without Jesus and that Jesus was not the Promised Messiah of the Jews.

The accommodating Cardinals and bishops have come to this radical-non Christian teaching since 2007. It was then that an ultimatum by the Jewish Anti Defamation League (ADL) and its allies was given. Cardinal Walter Kaspar, Prefect, Council for Christian Unity and  for  rapport with the Jews began the process of change with a front page article in the L’Osservatore Romano. Cardinal T. Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State presented this article to the Chief Rabbi of Israel.

ADL cited Cardinals Bertone and Kasper’s article to the Chief Rabbi.ADL  reported on its website that the Catholic Church has chosen to live at ‘peace’ with the Jews.

The article said that Jews do not have to convert for salvation. It said that the Revised Good Friday Prayer referred to a mass conversion of Jews in the end times in the future, whenever that would be. The ADL website said that the Revised Prayer would no more be called the Prayer for the Conversion of the Jews but as the Prayer for the Jews.

The Chief Rabbi who has the support of Israel, the U.S.A and their allies in Europe accepted the ‘surrender ' of doctrine by the Catholic Church. It was also major progress for the Freemason Society and their agenda for the Catholic Church and the world.

Catholic priests protested.
There was no comment from Cardinal William Levada, Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Cardinal Walter Kaspar had accepted in his L’Osservatore Romano report that Lumen Gentium 16 is the ordinary way of salvation for Jews.

‘…Those also can attain to salvation who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, yet sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do His will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience…’-Lumen Gentium 16,Vatican Council II

Ad Gentes 7 saying that all Jews need to convert with Catholic Faith and the Baptism of water was irrelevant.

‘ ..Therefore, all must be converted to Him, made known by the Church's preaching, and all must be incorporated into Him by baptism and into the Church which is His body. For Christ Himself "by stressing in express language the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mark 16:16; John 3:5), at the same time confirmed the necessity of the Church, into which men enter by baptism, as by a door. Therefore those men cannot be saved, who though aware that God, through Jesus Christ founded the Church as something necessary, still do not wish to enter into it, or to persevere in it."…-Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II (Emphasis added)
Jews could continue to believe that they were saved by Yahweh and the two cardinals would accept that present- day Jews are saved implicitly and in general by Jesus. So the Baptism of water and Catholic Faith is not a necessity in general for the salvation of the Jews according to Cardinals Kaspar, Bertone and Bagnasco.

With no public opposition from the Vatican Curia, cardinals and bishops a major theological change was made. It would have its affect on our understanding of moral theology (mortal sin), faith (accepting a first class heresy as not a mortal sin), ecclesiology (the Church would be only an organization and not the Mystical Body Jesus), eschatology (objective reality for going to Hell and avoiding it has been changed).

Cardinal Bagnasco would then say that those who reject the six million figure of the Jews who were killed in the concentration camps, could not be accepted in the Catholic Church. Rabbi Segni thanked him for this message with reference to the SSPX and Bishop Richard Williamson.

The Press Office of the Vatican which had said that a Catholic was free to have an opinion on this subject would give in within two weeks. Denying the six million figure,it was accepted by Cardinal Bertone, could be showing hatred for the Jews.

No one said that the anti Semitism law is a proselytism law (forced conversion). People are being put into prison for the wrong ‘thought’ and they are forced to recant.

To criticize the creators of this international law, ADL etc is also considered anti-Semitic.

It has been ADL which has been criticizing the Catholic Church teaching on Mission. No cardinal has said that this is ‘hatred’ against the Catholic Church.

The Jewish Left has been indicating that Catholic doctrine is inferior and inadequate and so they have the right to change it and the Catholic religion. This is ‘racism’ according to the standards of the Jewish Left itself.

From the Catholic perspective this is a denying of Jesus as the only and unique Saviour and a denying of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

Affirming the teaching outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation is obligatory for all Catholics as is our belief in the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Both are ex cathedra, infallible teachings.

Pope John Paul II has said that Judaism is not a path to salvation and Jews need to be oriented into the Catholic Church (Notification, CDF, Fr.Dupuis, 2001 by Cardinal Ratzinger).Even though Jesus died for all people, they need to respond for this salvation by entering the Church His Mystical Body (Dominus Iesus 21).Cardinal Bagnasco, Bertone and Kaspar are refuting the teachings of Pope John Paul II.

The message to Catholics is that even though there are fixed natural laws on earth (gravity, buoyancy) there is no fixed objective reality at the supernatural level.

The Jews do not have a centralized authority like the Catholics. The Jewish Left has been criticized by Rabbis who say that they are not offended if Catholics seek conversion . Since Jews pray for the conversion of others and also seek their conversion.

Cardinal Bagnasco’s statement is a setback to ecumenism with the Orthodox Churches. They still have the original understanding of extra ecclesiam nulla salus i.e de facto everyone needs to enter the Church with no exceptions.

Now, among those things which the Church has always preached and will never cease to preach is contained also that infallible statement by which we are taught that there is no salvation outside the Church.

However, this dogma must be understood in that sense in which the Church herself understands it. For, it was not to private judgments that Our Savior gave for explanation those things that are contained in the deposit of faith, but to the teaching authority of the Church.

Now, in the first place, the Church teaches that in this matter there is question of a most strict command of Jesus Christ. For He explicitly enjoined on His apostles to teach all nations to observe all things whatsoever He Himself had commanded (Matt. 28: 19-20).- Letter of the Holy Office 1949 to the Archbishop of Boston relative to Fr.Leonard Feeney.(Emphasis added)

The Church Councils, popes and saints interpreted the dogma as : De facto all people need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation and there are no exceptions. However in principle (de jure) there can be exceptions (invincible ignorance etc) known only to God. This was an ex cathedra, infallible teaching of the Council of Florence which is an obligatory Catholic teaching for all popes, cardinals, bishops, religious and laity to follow. It was repeated by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Vatican in the 1949 Letter with reference to the Jews in Boston.

Repost : Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone in a Letter to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel said Jews do not need to convert in the present times

DECEMBER 22, 2015

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone in a Letter to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel said Jews do not need to convert in the present times

Related image
It was Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone with the approval of Pope Benedict who said in indirectly and in a subtle way that Jews do not need to convert. In a letter to the Chief  Rabbinate of Israel ( see text below) he referred to an article by Cardinal Walter Kasper on the front page of the L'Osservatore Romano. That article clearly said Jews do not need to convert any more into the Church for salvation.

In this Letter of Cardinal Bertone no where is it said that the Catholic Church is necessary for salvation according to Vatican Council II (AG 7, LG 14). Instead, like Pope Benedict XVI and the Jewish Left, the theology of Cushingism is used to interpret Vatican Council II and the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

Letter of Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone on the Revised Good Friday Prayer for the Conversion of the Jews.

Bertone, Tarcisio
Città del Vaticano, 2008/05/14

Mr Oded Wiener
Director-General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel
Beit Yahav
80 Yirmiyahu Street
P.O. Box 36016
Jerusalem

Dear Sir,
I write with reference to the Statement issued by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel in response to the publication of the Note of 4 February 2008, altering the Oremus et pro Iudaeis prayer in the 1962 edition of the Missale Romanum.

In this regard, I would point out that – by means of the "Communiqué of the Secretariat of State" which appeared in the daily edition of L'Osservatore Romano on 5 April 2008, and subsequently in the weekly language editions of the same publication – the Holy See has clearly emphasized the Catholic Church's firm commitment, especially in the wake of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, to promote and develop relations with the Jews through dialogue marked by profound respect, sincere esteem and cordial friendship. This commitment remains unchanged, especially in view of the spiritual links that exist between Jews and Christians.

As you have observed, particular prominence has also been given to a substantial and detailed article on the subject by Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism. This article appeared on the front page of L'Osservatore Romano on 10 April 2008, as a sign of the importance attributed to the text and the fact that what it says about the new version of the Prayer for the Jews in the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal is commonly held.Among other things, the Cardinal emphasized that a sincere dialogue between Jews and Christians is possible, on the one hand, on the basis of our common faith in the one God, Creator of heaven and earth, and in the promises made to Abraham, but on the other hand, through respectfully acknowledging the fundamental difference over faith in Jesus as Christ and Redeemer of all mankind. As Cardinal Kasper clearly explains, the new Oremus et pro Iudaeis is not intended to promote proselytism towards the Jews and it opens up an eschatological perspective. Christians, however, cannot but bear witness to their faith, in full and total respect for the freedom of others, and this leads them also to pray that all will come to recognize Christ.

Likewise, on his recent visit to the United States of America, the Holy Father gave a number of indications of his sentiments towards the Jews. Indeed, after meeting the representatives of various religions, the Pope particularly wanted to receive a group of Jewish religious leaders in order to hand over to them a special Message on the occasion of the great feast of Pesah, devoted to celebrating the great marvels that Almighty God has worked for his people.

In New York, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI visited a synagogue in order to meet personally a Jewish community whose Rabbi was a survivor from the Nazi extermination camps. He wanted to manifest his sympathy, affection and closeness to the Jewish people, and to demonstrate, through a tangible and special gesture, the Holy See's commitment to respectful and loving dialogue, which leads to ever deeper relations of friendship and understanding.

In the hope that this letter may serve to dispel any remaining doubt on the part of the Chief Rabbinate over the Catholic Church's stance towards the Jewish people and over the intentions behind the alteration of the Oremus et pro Iudaeis of the 1962 Missale Romanum, I remain

Yours sincerely,
Tarcisio Card. Bertone

Secretary of State 1

Congregation for Catholic Education says Fr.Robert Christian O.P's case should be referred to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

The American Dominican at the Angelicum University,Rome teaches that cases of persons saved in invincible ignorance and the baptism of desire are known to us in the present times.

According to an official of the Congregation for Catholic Education,Vatican we cannot see the dead in 2012 who are saved in invincible ignorance, seeds of the word, elements of sanctification etc. These cases are known only to God.

The professor of ecclesiology at the University of St.Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum),Rome, assumes that we know exceptions to the thrice defined dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.I was present at the Angelicum University, on the feast day of St.Francis Xavier,a few years back, when he spoke on this subject.

The official, at the office of the Cardinal Prefect, Zenon Grocholewski, said this was a doctrinal issue and it came under the jurisdiction of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith,Vatican. He agreed that it was irrational for the professor to assume that we can see the dead.

It may be mentioned that this error of Fr.Robert Christian O.P is not likely due to ill will or disobedience but to a general ignorance on this issue.
