When someone mentions LG 16 I refer to AG 7. There is no conflict : according to Ad Gentes 7,Vatican Council II the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams is not saved

I am told that Lumen Gentium 16 says a person can be saved in invincible ignorance etc. I often have to reply that Ad Gentes 7 says all need Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for salvation. So is there no conflict?

No.

All adults need to enter the Church formally ( with baptism of water and Catholic Faith ) and there is a possibility known only to God , of a non Catholic being saved in invincible ignorance etc, in the manner known only to God.So there is no conflict. All need to be formal, visible members of the Catholic Church according to Vatican Council II. All need to convert into the Catholic Church for salvation (to avoid Hell).

This is also the message of the defined dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. Cantate Domino, Council of Florence says all Orthodox Christians and Protestants need to convert into the Church to avoid Hell.

So when someone mentions LG 16 I refer to AG 7.

AG 7 is the ordinary means of salvation and not LG 16.
