BISHOP PETER LIBASCI AGREES WITH FR.LEONARD FEENEY’S COMMUNITY IN MANCHESTER : LG 16, LG 8 DO NOT CONTRADICT THE DOGMA EXTRA ECCLESIAM NULLA SALUS

Bishop Peter Libasci, bishop of Manchester,USA agrees that we do not know anyone saved in invincible ignorance and with a good conscience. So these cases, known only to God, are not explicit exceptions to the literal interpretation of the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

These blog posts have been sent to his office and to the various ministries and to the administration in the diocese of Manchester,USA.There has been no denial or correction.

Bishop Peter Libasci is affirming the literal interpretation of the dogma outside the church there is no salvation. The dogma is supported by Ad Gentes 7, Vatican Council II and not contradicted by Lumen Gentium 16 and Lumen Gentium 8 etc.

There is nothing in Vatican Council II to contradict the centuries old interpretation of the dogma on exclusive salvation being there in only the Catholic Church.

Since those saved in invincible ignorance and the baptism of desire are not known to us, ‘Feeneyism’ is in accord with Catholic magisterial documents.

Bishop Peter Libasci is endorsing the same position as Fr.Leonard Feeney’s community of men and women religious in Manchester, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, founded by Bro. Francis MICM.

The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary hold what the media calls the ‘rigorist interpretation’ of the dogma on salvation.Like Fr.Leonard Feeney they deny that there is any known implicit baptism of desire. They have provided a definition of implicit desire followed by the baptism of water. They accept the possibility of a non Catholic being saved in this way.Implicit desire/baptism of desire is always implicit. So it does not contradict the dogma.

The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have always been faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. They know that the traditional interpretation of the thrice defined dogma does not contradict any Church document.

Bishop Peter Libasci and the priests, nuns and lay people of the diocese of Manchester, to whom e-mails were sent a few days back, hold the same teaching on the dogma as Fr.Leonard Feeney, which is that of the Church Councils, popes, saints, Vatican Council 1 and II and all the Catechisms of the Catholic Church.-Lionel Andrades
