The Augustinian Recollect priests, like me, accept Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other Magisterial Documents which I interpret ratiionally
The
Augustinian Recollect priests, like me, accept Vatican Council II and the
Catechism of the Catholic Church.They say outside the Church there is no
salvation ( AG 7, CCC 845,846 etc).The priests interpret them rationally.
They also believe in the
Nicene Creed which refers to the one, holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. This
Church teaches in Vatican Council II, as over the centuries, that all need
faith and the baptism of water for salvation (Cantate Domino, Council of Florence 1442
etc). So they follow Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the
Catholic Church, like other Catholics.
For me also, Vatican Council
II has the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition.This was referred to by
Pope Benedict. He wrote that other religions are not paths to salvation and all
their members are oriented to the Catholic Church (CDF, Notification, Jacques
Dupuis sj, 2001).
The Augustinian Recollect priests
accept Dominus Iesus and the CDF Notification on the Jesuit priest.It was
approved by Pope John Paul II.
Like the Augustinian Recollect
priests I too affirm Vatican Council II, the Catechism of the Catholic Church
and other Magisterial Documents (Creeds etc) which I interpret rationally.
Morally, magisterial texts must only be interpreted rationally.
Pope Francis has said that
every Catholic must accept Vatican Council II. If the Augustinian Recollect
priests did not accept Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic
Church, they could not be Catholic.
Father Javier Monroy is the
Rector of the Augustinian Recollect Church San Ildefonso e Tomasso da Villanova
in Rome. They also have a minor seminary here.He is responsible for
religious formation.
The Augustinians are conservative not only when they affirm Ad Gentes 7 and the Catechism (845.846, 1257 etc) but also when they interpret LG 8,LG 14,LG 16, UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 etc, in Vatican Council II, as being only invisible cases in 2023.So LG 8 etc are not objective exceptions for Ad Gentes 7 and CCC 845,846. They do not contradict the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus or the Syllabus of Errors of Pope Pius IX. It is this rational interpretation of LG 8, LG 14, LG 16 etc, which make them support Tradition and avoid liberalism.
Liberalism based upon the irrational interpretation of LG 8 etc, is unethical.They can only be projected, as invisible and not visible, non Catholics saved outside the Church in 1965-2023. This would be honest.It would be rational and traditional.-Lionel Andrades
