BISHOP'S APOLOGETIC PAMPHLET SAYS CHURCH IS NECESSARY AND CHURCH IS ALSO NOT NECESSARY.HE KNOWS WHEN IT IS NOT NECESSARY. THE CASES ARE VISIBLE TO HIM.

The edited pamphlet titled THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND NON CHRISTIAN RELIGIONS available on an apologetic rack in the Basilica of St.Ambrose and St.Charles in Rome prominently implies-   Jesus is the only Saviour and those who belong to non Christian religions are savd by Jesus and so they do not have to convert. Elsewhere it indicates  they need to convert.

The pamphlet now signed by the Bishop of Frascati cannot outright say every one needs to convert into the Church (AG 7,LG 14) in the Year of the Faith since he assumes there are known exceptions.

He does not state that all non Catholics in the present times are oriented to Hell, unless they convert. He cannot. Since, LG 16 ( saved with grace and a good conscience), for him, does not refer to an implicit case, known to God only and accepted by us in principle but an explicit case, known to us also and defacto, visible to us .Since it is explicit for Bishop Raffaello Martinelli,he will not write all non Catholics need to convert to avoid Hell.

He asks prominently in red :why is Jesus Christ the only Saviour ?. He cannot ask why outside the church there is no salvation since he assumes there is known salvation outside the visible Church. Some people known to him do not need faith and baptism for salvation(AG 7).So he restricts himself to Jesus being the only Saviour and every one not needing to convert into the Church in the present times.

He asks in a prominent title on the back page of the pamphlet :how are those who belong to non Christian religions saved? He answers with a quote from Lumen Gentium 16. There is no explanation.

Being saved with grace and a good conscience is not the ordinary means of salvation as the bishop implies. The ordinary means is faith and baptism (AG 7).

Another prominent title on the back page and in red is: Those who are saved, are they always saved by Christ and his Church? Yes and this does not contradict Ad Gentes 7 which says all need faith and baptism for salvation. It does not contradict the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

He never cites LG 14,AG 7 or the dogma on exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church. This is his understanding of the Catholic Church with respect to other religions.-Lionel Andrades
