Fr.John Courtney Murray blew it. He didn't complete the job.

There is a special award named after John Courtney Murray. At Boston College I think they have named a street after him.They all do not realize that John Courtney Murray 'blew it' for the progressives.He didn't 'complete the job'.The secular leftist media in Boston  picked up where Murray failed.So the the progressives are able to interpret Vatican Council as a break from the past.

Murray, along with Cardinal Richard Cushing and the U.S Jesuits 'enshrined' the so called exceptions of Vatican Council II.They were however not able to say that these cases were exceptions to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus or that they were explicit known cases for them to be exceptions.

So there was nothing new added in Vatican Council II.Even the Church Fathers and the popes have mentioned implicit desire, invincible ignorance etc and none of them called these cases exceptions or implied that they were exceptions to the dogma.

So with the Vatican Council II text not saying that these cases were exceptions to the dogma or that they were explicitly known ,Murray's work was a failure.

The progressives now have to use the dead man walking theory and then start reinterpreting Vatican Council II as a rupture with the past.

Once the visible dead saved problem is identified the liberals have lost their doctrinal and theological foundation in error.The Council is traditional.-Lionel Andrades
