Pope Benedict was interpreting Vatican Council II with a false premise and he wanted the Society of St. Pius X(SSPX) to continue to do the same but also accept the non traditional conclusion, like him. The SSPX canonical recognition depended upon this. They had to fake it. The SSPX had to accept false doctrine and reject the dogma EENS etc to get canonical recognition and Pope Benedict called it a doctrinal issue
