CARDINAL AGOSTINO VALLINI, VICAR GENERAL FOR THE HOLY FATHER IN ROME HAS SAID THAT BAPTISM IS NECESSARY FOR SALVATION

The Grand Chancellor of the St. John Lateran University, Rome indicates all non Catholics need the baptism of water given to adults with Catholic Faith, to go to Heaven and avoid Hell (for salvation).

Cardinal Vaillani expressed this traditional Catholic teaching in his talk at a conference organised by the Rome Vicariate and whose copies were available today for parishioners at the church San Giuseppe All Aurelia, of the Oblates of St. Joseph in Rome.(1)

The conference- talk was presented at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Rome and the subject was ‘Andate e fate discepoli, battezzando e insegnando (Mt.28, 19.20) - Riscopriamo la belleza del Battesimo’ (Go out and make disciples, Baptize and teach) (June 12, 2012)

The Cardinal Vicar General of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI is saying that all Jews, Muslims and other non Catholics need Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for salvation. He is affirming the teaching outside the Church there is no salvation which is also expressed in Vatican Council II (AG 7) which will be celebrated in The Year of the Faith.

The Year of the Faith preparations have begun at the Church San Giuseppe Aurelia with icons and pictures on display.

Bishop Raffaello Martinelli, the Bishop of Frascati, Italy has also in leaflets approved by Cardinal Vaillani, stated that ‘the church knows of no means to salvation other than the baptism of water’ and ‘even those who do not belong to the visible church are objectively oriented towards her.’(2)

They are expressing the teachings of Vatican Council II which states all need Catholic Faith and the baptism of water for salvation (Ad Gentes 7).This is in agreement with ‘the dogma’ the ‘infallible teaching’ which Pope Pius XII mentioned with reference to extra ecclesiam nulla salus.(3)

Neither does the Letter of the Holy Office or Vatican Council II (LG 16) contradict Cardinal Vaillani since we do not know any one in the present times (2012) saved with implicit desire, invincible ignorance or a good conscience. (4)
