Liberals because of the use of the false premise want the Council to be accepted in its present form

The liberals in Rome have the same understanding of Vatican Council II as the SSPX. Neither of the two groups can see the Council as traditional.

Last Sunday a Redemptorist priest in Rome who offers Mass in English said that the Council does not contradict tradition. For the SSPX it does.

Kirchliche Umschau: How do you account for Rome’s change of direction?

Father Niklaus Pfluger: In Rome there is a group strongly opposed to a canonical regularization for the Society. Such an official recognition would in effect be a sign that the post-Vatican II era is outdated and that a new chapter has begun.

Lionel:  The liberals in Rome have the same understanding of Vatican Council II as the Society of St.Pius X (SSPX). They both assume that the dead are saved in invincible ignorance etc and that these cases are visible to us and so they are an exception to the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. So Vatican Council II for both groups rejects tradition ( the dogma and the syllabus of errors).

It is because the SSPX bishops are  not aware of this error  they cannot see Vatican Council II as a traditional Council.

Of course, this would not suit the agenda of the Council’s supporters. For them, official recognition of the Society of St. Pius X would be not merely an insult, but also a questioning of the Council’s status, therefore a collapse. It appears that the Council’s adherents prevailed.

Lionel: The SSPX becaue of the use of the false premise in the interpretation of Vatican Council II wants the Council to be rejected. While the liberals because of the use of the false premise, wants the Council to be accepted in its present form.
