Vatican Council II is a great impetus in our time for Mission. We are called to make disciples of all nations and to carry the Word of God to all people said Prof. Guzmán Carriquiry he was speaking yesterday on the theme: “The Ecclesial Movements and the New Communities: new missionary agents” at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Montesanto, Rome.

He is the Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and auditor  at the Synod of Bishops according to the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships. The Catholic Fraternity organised the meeting. The talk was preceded by Vespers in Latin by religious at the Church. Then there was a 30 minute  prayer and worship by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Amen Community before the talk overt 20 minutes.

The New Evangelisation is the transmission of the Faith.It is cooperating with the Holy Spirit he said and it is not many programs and projects but the following of the Holy Spirit .

Amid the present Christianophobia we are called to mission he said  which Pope Paul VI mentioned in Evangelii Nuntiandi and also as did Pope John Paul II in  many exhortations.

During the times of the Council of Trent, following the Protestant revolt,he said,  there were many missionary saints.He mentioned St.Ignatius of Loyola, St.Francis Xavier, St.Teresa of Avila and other saints.They taught the people and brought the faith to Asia and Africa.

The Holy Spirit is among all Christians, he said, including those in the other churches whose representatives are there at the Synod of Bishops  underway.

He spoke of the beauty of being a Christian through one's testimony and  personally knowing Jesus, personally knowing the Presence of Jesus.

Evangelisation is not being done  as a prosyletism activity  but as  a testimony of knowing Jesus said Prof. Guzmán Carriquiry. Mission is contact with Jesus. It is done through the Church and the Sacraments he mentioned.
