Pro Masonic Cardinal Nicols does not say that the norm for salvation is membership in the Catholic Church , this is the ordinary way to avoid Hell and most people do not die as Catholics

'There is no way in any Catholic teaching which says that any one person is in Hell', says Archbishop Nicols who rejects the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus(EENS). 1
The dogma tells us that all need faith and baptism for salvation, all need to be members of the Church to avoid Hell and go to Heaven. This Catholic teaching is repeated in Vatican Council II( Ad Gentes 7). So the norm to go to Heaven and avoid Hell has always been membership in the Catholic Church. This is the ordinary way of salvation and we know most people die outside the Church.

So regarding the man who commits suicide the Church has never, over the centuries said that it knows of any one who will be an exception to the general teaching. So unlike the practise of the  liberal ecclesiastics in England today , a Catholic who commits suicide was not given a burial.
St.Augustine, like St. Thomas Aquinas held the strict interpretation of the dogma EENS. St.Augustine does not state that he knows of any suicide who will be an exception to the norm.No one on earth can make this claim. No one can say that there are known people saved outside the Church. No one on earth can say that the mercy of God in 2018 has come upon a particular person who has committed suicide and so he will not go to Hell.
But the exceptions are the norm for the English bishops and the Masons.
It is ecclesiastical Masonry since the 1940's which  has been projecting hypothetical and invisible people,  as being exceptions to the norm.
The cardinals at the Holy Office(1949) along with the Masons in Boston excommunicated Fr. Leonard Feeney for not saying like them, that invisible cases of the baptism of desire, baptism of blood and being saved in invincible ignorance are explicit and objectively visible - and they are examples of salvation outside the Church. This is irrational and non traditional and has not been the teaching of the Church over centuries but it has been supported by the English bishops. The rejection of this traditional Catholic teaching on exclusive salvation in the Catholic Church , would be 'Catholic teaching' for Cardinal Nicols as it was for the late Cardinal Murphy O Connors who rejected the dogma EENS and interpreted Vatican Council II as a rupture with the past ecclesiology of the Church. Now that he is on the other side , like Lazarus, he must know if Hell has fire.
According to the teachings of the Catholic Church,  in 2018, all the Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists etc are on the way to Hell, since they die without faith and baptism (AG 7, LG 14) while LG 8, LG 16, LG 14, UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 in Vatican Council II, refer to hypothetical and invisible people ( they cannot be anything else)  and so would not be exceptions to the traditional teaching on the ordinary way of salvation.
The saints have referred numerous times to fire and brimstone in Hell. Here are some references to fire in Hell from the Bible.

Which of you can dwell with devouring fire? which of you shall dwell with everlasting burnings- Isaiah 33:14

Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.- Matthew 25:41 (Douay Rgeims Catholic Bible)

And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.-Matt.25:46

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:50

And if thy hand, or thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee. It is better for thee to go into life maimed or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire. - Matthew 18:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.- Revelation 21:8.

When I was a seminarian at the Beda Pontifical College, the seminary for late vocations under the  bishops of  England and Wales, I knew that it was a pro-Masonic seminary.Situated in front of  the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Wall, Rome,  the English priests, one was my Spiritual Director, would repeat the same Masonic line on Hell.
They all rejected the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus since the baptism of desire referred to known people saved outside the Church for them,. So Fr. Leonard Feeney was wrong and the Holy Office was correct for them. They also interpreted Lumen Gentium 16, Lumen Gentium 8 etc  as referring to known people saved outside the Church.
So the Rector would say that salvation is open for all( as the priests in Rome are now forced to say at Mass) and all do not need to enter the Catholic Church for salvation.I corrected the Rector, Mons. Roderick Strange, who is no more the rector according to their website. He is the Chair of the Beda Association.

I said that in potential Jesus died for all and to receive this salvation all need to enter the Church (Dominus Iesus 20) but he refused to affirm this traditional teaching.

A Dominican priest at that time said that it was alright to be a member of the Masons as a social club.

Another priest, Fr.John Fuellenbach svd , who had written book which was popular at that time( some 16 years back) did not believe in Hell.He and I would go back and forth in front of the whole class of mostly English seminarians. They are priests now and have to tow the official line on Hell, that Cardinal Nicols repeats, to remain priests there.
