An Augustinian Recollect priest at the church Sant Ildefonso e Tomasso Villanova, via Sistina, Rome, yesterday agreed with me. He said Vatican Council II has a continuity with the past. It was not a rupture. The Augustinian Recollect priest at this church, which also houses a seminary, interprets the Council rationally. So there is continuity with Catholic Tradition.

The Augustinians interpret Lumen Gentium 8, Lumen Gentium  14, Lumen Gentium 16, Unitatis Redintigratio 3, Nostra Aetate 2, Gaudium et Specs 22 etc in Vatican Council II as being hypothetical and physically invisible cases only in 1965-2023.This is common sense. So Lumen Gentium 8 etc are not practical exceptions for the Athanasius Creed and the Syllabus of Errors of Pope Pius IX. Lumen Gentium 8, Lumen Gentium 14,Lumen Gentium 16 etc, do not contradict the past ecclesiocentrism of the Catholic Church. There is continuity with the theology of St. Ildefonso and St. Tommasso di Villanova.

The Augustinians also affirm the Catechism of the Catholic Church 846 etc. It says outside the Church there is no salvation, the Catholic Church is like the only Ark of Noah that saves in the flood and God the Father wants all people to be united in the Catholic Church(CCC 845, 846).This is the official teaching of the Catholic Church today according to Magisterial Documents. It is approved by the Vatican.

St. Augustine of Hippo held the strict interpretation of the dogma EENS as did the saints Ildefonso and Tomasso di Villanova.

The Augustinians today indicate that the days of saying Vatican Council II is a break with Tradition are over -Lionel Andrades
